M1 problems... again

My God I hate this course (M1)!!! Doubt I'll be doing M2 next year :tongue:

Anyway, I've got a couple of silly problems with an assignment...

•The force [8i+(b+10)j]N moves a particle parallel to the x-axis. Find "b".[b]Am I just trying to get j to be 0 here? This would surely make it parallel to x if there were no j's?

•Forces (in newtons) of (4i+2j)N (-2i+j)N and (3i+5j)N act on a particle of mass 10kg.
(a)What is the acceleration vector? - cando this
(b)What is the smallest additional force that will move the particle parallel to the x axis
(c)y axis

i) yep.

ii) again, they need to be added up to equal 0.

Just to clarify...

If [8i+(b+10)j]N pushes parallel to the x-axis, b=-10?
