How to let a colleague know I'm interested...

I started a new job fairly recently and there's a girl that works in the same team as I do (I'm a bloke) who I really like. Whist we seem to have things in common I'm not really sure if there's any mutual interest on her part. She's quite friendly and polite to everyone so even when she sounds friendly to me I'm hesitant to read too much into it.

I suppose I'm just seeking ideas on how to subtly convey that I'm interested without making things awkward if the feeling's not mutual. The last think I want to do is make her feel uncomfortable and I wouldn't want to make things awkward for me either. Also I know that dating a colleague could be risky if it didn't last etc. but on the other hand I wouldn't like to let a possible opportunity pass by without doing something to test the water.

i saw a documentary called "500 days of summer" and it didnt end well, so i say based on that, find some other
Ask her to have coffee/lunch with you?
