Hello, I would like some laptop advice please. I'm looking to buy a lightweight notebook and don't want to pay more than £700, ideally. Any recommendations?

I'm also looking for some advice for a netbook. Small as possible, budget of about £500, looking for it to be as quick as possible, longish battery life but that is less important than speed

I know, realistically will probably only pay 300ish

It's for my mam, a small business just emailing/word processing/simple internet browsing but doing all this as quickly as possible and small/light enough to be able to transport it

Basically, yes. Just normal usage. I watch a lot of films and also play the odd game.

Thank you for making this thread! The advice is really helpful.
Could someone help me with finding a laptop?

I'm currently doing my GCSEs and I'm looking to buy a laptop for my A Levels (because I work in my room and our computer is downstairs with little room to work next to).
All I really need is one with a fairly quick internet connection for research and emailing. I won't be running games on it, and all I'll probably save to it is some Word documents and powerpoint presentations.
I can't spend more than £500 and ideally I want one around £300.

So, what is the cheapest laptop I can buy with quickest internet?

    Thank you!

    What about this one? http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...pf_rd_i=468294

Tbh, I am so clueless. If I have to go higher than £700, that's fine. But I don't want to be paying silly money as I'm also planning to upgrade my all-in-one desktop, which will cost a fair bit.

That's really good with the specs, just not sure cos it's Acer.

Also you should hold up till student sales and the introduction of the new processors, which should mean longer battery life.

Oh, Acer. I didn't even realise. Yeah, had bad experiences with Acer, so that's out. How about http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-UX21E-K...9282612&sr=8-1

Student sales isn't really applicable as it's through a business account or something, but when would the new processors be coming out? I'm on a bit of a tight schedule.

They should be out within a week or 2.
Asus are very good, is 128 gb enough? but the ssd would go lightening quick, not sure about gaming, depends on the games.

Ooh okay, I'll keep an eye out. Thanks. Oh, 128gb is a bit small, but I've got an external drive anyway, so it is acceptable.

Do ultrabooks not have disc drives? I may have wasted my time doing all this research. I need a disc drive. :sigh:

They have disc drives, just worried about whether the integrated graphics is enough for you.

    Help me

so I'm looking into buying a laptop for uni... I'm starting in September.

I've had a few rubbish laptops - my last one being a low-spec Acer Aspire which broke within a year and now won't even turn on. Right now I'm using my brother's laptop - A HP Pavilion dv7 with beats audio, i7 processor etc. I'm loving the speed of this machine, but I don't think it's really going to be within my price range.

I'm looking for preferably at least an i5 processor, i don't really understand much about laptops but i usually like to do lots of things at the same time - itunes, multiple internet pages, word processor, etc. i really hate slow computers! i don't have that many photos or anything, just a bit of music.

so please help me, there are waaaay to many choices! I'm looking to spend <£800 and i don't want a netbook.

edit: i have seen a version of my brother's laptop here; http://h40059.www4.hp.com/uk/homelap...dex.php?sort=h
But i'm not sure what the difference is between my brother's and this one. it seems like a fairly good price, what do you think?

What are you doing at uni?
What are you exactly looking to do? Any pc editing or gaming, etc

Cos getting an i7 under £800 is easy.
Also the new processors from Intel are being released slowly.
