It won't have it, but I recall Windows giving out fake kinda version from Microsoft, its usable but different and less featured compared to the proper version, not sure.

Is there any vendor which sells laptops with Linux preinstalled or without os?
I would like to save the money for Windows license.

Custom Laptops from PCspecialist can be bought without OS, saves about £100.

It's actually quite hard to find pre-installed Linux laptops unless your in the US, the one I did see for the UK is a complete rip-off.

Novatech as well do sell without OS.

Actually I prefer installing Linux (not Ubuntu) by myself.

Thank you, that's what I was looking for

Hello guys, hopefully going to uni this year so i'll need a laptop. It'll just be used for the internet, streaming games and microsoft office so it doesnt have to have really high specs. I have a budget of around £200. Any recommendations?

    Thanks

Your probably have to go 2nd hand on ebay or something, otherwise a netbook is your other option or save up more money

Hey guys, I'm also planning on buying a laptop soon! I'll use it for internet surfing, watching movies/TV shows online, Skype and that kind of thing, no fancy software or games. Any idea on what specifications I should be looking for? I have no clue whatsoever when it comes to processors or whatever! My budget will be around 450.

Never heard of the website, but the specs are pretty good and new, so it should be good, weight seems good, 3-4 Hours (up to 4 hours with power management).

    Its good overall.

    Hey guys,

I recently posted on the PC building thread - but since my laptop seems to be unrepairable (without significant cost) it seems I'm back to buying another laptop :sigh:

I've been shopping around online though, and it almost seems like laptop technology has reverted to the dark ages, and the ones that catch my eye are at least 2 years old, which makes me think I can get something better.. in any case, here's my search criteria if anyone wants to help! It'll be used for gaming and rendering, basically I need power because I get stressed and annoyed when technology is inexplicably slow or broken, and I've had enough of that from the last two years of my current laptop's life!!

    I'm looking for:

    >750GB memory
    >8GB RAM (with space to upgrade)
i5 / i7 processor, for some reason all laptops seem to run at 2.3 GHz though that's no faster than my old laptop, any reason for why there doesn't seem to be advances in this? Does it even matter?

Non-glossy finish, might be a bit picky but them things are a bitch to keep clean!

edit: the ENVY 17 seems to have a lot of heat issues, so that's probably out of the window, fml
Currently the best I've found is the HP ENVY 17 - but then I look up that laptop on online stores and the specs seem to change drastically, which I'm finding very confusing.. plus it's two years old by now, yet I can't find a newer model. Plus the website I found it on still says it's the best laptop out there, which I can't imagine is possible...
Another thing I like about the ENVY is that it says the GPU is standalone and upgradeable, but again, not sure if that's become the standard between when it was first launched and now..

    Any help appreciated!

    p.s. no macs.

Budget £900-£1000, preferrably 17'' but I'd be fine with 16'' if it meant a better laptop

Resolution isn't an issue, but I'd imagine that with my budget it'd probably be as good as it can get as an indirect result

    Hey guys,

I need a laptop for uni an i have no idea where to begin. My bugdet is £500, i want a webcam and for it to be light/portable with longish battery life. I only need it for lectures and the internet but i don't want it to be too slow.

Any suggestions on where to look, i heard lenovo is good but i honestly don't know/understand the differences between most!

    Any help is much appreciated!

Hey guys I have narrowed down my search to these 3 laptops.
I'll be using it mostly for engineering programs.

The HP i5 3rd gen should be sufficient, but for the same price Acer is giving an i7.
Not sure of the quality of Acer builds.

    http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/compar...08048,10212225

Anyone care to share their opinion on which of these is better? Also I DO NOT see a difference between the HP's for the $100 difference. Graphic card maybe??
