Barts and the london - AAABBB
Imperial -
AAABB
Kings - B in English Language and Maths if not offered at AS/A2.
St Georges -
416 points from top eight GCSEs (avg A)
UCL - BB in english maths and C in a modern language

How does this show that these uni's are GCSE heavy. 'Checking' these sections doesnt really help.

Also, does anyone know of anyone getting into these unis with similar GCSEs? (2.5A*, 7A, 1B)

Well then, why don't you apply to them and not ask questions.

Are you mad because you were not able to answer my question? someone is definitely butt hurt.

LOL I clearly did answer your question but someone obviously didn't check the other sections. Attention to detail is key if you want to be a Doctor  haha

No you didn't, I asked a question on how to check if said uni is GCSE heavy. You then linked me to the student room wiki medicine main page. No **** Sherlock. Here comes Captain Obvious to save the day. However i am willing to let it slide on this one occasion.:colone:

Look at the top strength column on that link, it will tell you what Universities take into consideration the most.
Is 6A's and 4B's good enough?

For some medical schools, yes. Apply very carefully though!!!
Do you have any suggestions, I was hoping to apply for the top ones. My teachers believe I am capable of AAAA at as level.

All that info can be found here. Strong AS grades can compensate weaker GCSE grades. Your medicine application will be dependent on other factors including your UKCAT/BMAT, personal statement and predicted A2's.
Thank you very much !!

No problem, good luck with your application!
Hey All,

I'm hopefully applying for GEM for 2016 entry.

I have a 1st Class (Hons) in biomedical science. My A levels are terrible haha.

Work experience includes 1 year as a volunteer HCA, volunteered in a hospice for 6 months, St Johns and London Air Ambulance.

I work in a neuroscience department for Oxford Uni and perform brain dissections, help teach oxford med students and work a lot with neuropathologists and do biomedical research.

I know I'll have to apply for Unis that don't look at A levels i.e. Barts, Warwick, Newcastle and Southampton. The price of course, is that they all have high UKCAT cut offs, so assuming I do REALLY well in the UKCAT do you think I'll be eligible for interview? I know I'm going to need about 750 to be competitive  Applied twice before but only get about 650 :frown:

Any advice?
With a UKCAT of 732.5, is King's risky? I know their average last year was 730. All my other grades are generally up to scratch (AAAAA at AS, around A*AA at A Level probably, GCSE's are fine (7A*, 6As) etc)
Hi everyone  I was just wondering about which universities I should apply to, and if I am a good enough applicant to apply to Medicine at all!

At GCSE, I got 6 A*s (in bio, chem, maths, english lit, english lang and physics), and 2 As (in geography and french), and a distinction in ICT OCR National Award Level 2.

At AS-level, I got an A in biology and chemistry, but a B in maths (with mechanics) and physics. I'm dropping physics, and retaking one of the maths modules so hopefully I can get a good A overall in maths.

I'm also doing the EPQ, and I'm hoping for an A*.

I have had work experience in two hospitals and three charity-based volunteering placements.

Unfortunately, I mucked up the UKCAT and got 630 :/

Which universities do you think I should apply to?

 And good luck to all you prospective medics out there too!:colondollar:

Hiya,

I have 5A* 7A and a B(in health and social) A* in bio and chem

AS levels (AABC)
B in chem - retaking a module, and a C in history.

Also have a range of work experience, shadowing a doctor, a specialist pharmacist, volunteering at fundraising events for the prospect hospice and also working part time in a care home.

Am i strong applicant for medicine? looking at bristol, cardiff, nottingham.

I have similar results to you! Your AS grades are okay, but what matters really is if you get the predictions, if you do, you are good! :clap2:
Nottingham and Bristol are pretty high universities, but if you think you can do it - go for it. I would check if they have a cut off for the UKCAT or not, as I am sure Nottingham does (I think 680+? Dont quote me on that though), good luck, if you work hard you will get into Medical school
Hi,

I got 10 A*s at GCSE, and 4As ( Biology, Chemisty, Maths and Geography) and 1B ( Further Maths (only 1 ums off an A :frown:) at AS. I don't think my remark will go up to an A, but was wondering if this B will limit me? My teachers have said it's a 5th AS, so won't matter that much and since it's further maths it's not hugely relevant to medicine, but I can't help feeling like it brings down my entire application.

I've done lots of work experience, and volunteering, and have also done DofE gold and am doing an EPQ. I'm medic prefect a school, and did Young Enterprise. I also worked on the school magazine team and do cross counrty and have a part time job. Do I have a chance at getting into unis like Oxford, UCL and Imperial if my BMAT score is really good?

Any advice on improving my application would be much appreciated!

Thanks so much

Hi,

Providing i reflect upon my work experiences, extra curric and volunteering, is this enough?

Work Experience:

- 1 week at hospital visiting stroke, radiology and endocrinology departments as well as shadowing respective consultants.
- 1 week care home
- 4 days at GP surgery
- 1 week at King's diabetics research group
- 6 weeks pharmacy
- completed medical research at University of Cambridge

Volunteering:

- Once a week at a disability charity (18 months so far)
- St John Ambulance cadet (12 months so far)

Extra Curric:

- Prefect
- DofE silver.. (doing gold during Yr13)
- Young Enterprise.. won area finals..
- Student Mentoring
- Tennis at club performance level
- Medical Soc at school
- NCS challenge 2013
- hobbies: cricket, photography.. have done some event photography and product photography (but a general hobby)

I feel as though my extra curricular activities is letting me down as i do not play any instruments or take part in any public speaking, debating//drama//etc

I want to apply to Bristol so personal statement is key.

Any advice please.

You won't be able to fit all that into a PS in any meaningful way. Pick a few of the most significant ones and make more of them rather than trying to cram everything in. It should be more than enough.

No, your B won't cause a problem, especially as FM is not considered as a separate subject by most med schools.

There's no reason you shouldn't apply to Oxford, UCL or Imperial, but I would advise against all three, because if your BMAT score isn't up to scratch then you're only left with one chance!
Would i be considered for Medicine?

This is my current profile:
