Why are there so many clearing places?
Welcome to the University of Exeter forum: where prospective and current students can discuss everything from what it is like to be in Teletubby Land to walking up Cardiac Hill, from being at a campus university to the shopping.

Re: Why are there so many clearing places?I think because less people applied this year due to the tuition fee increase to £9k since a lot of people didn't want a huge debt at the end of uni.(Original post by GarethEvans)
Exeter seems to have a ridiculous amount of clearing places available, even at this late stage, when most Universities are full.
Any idea why? Seems quite unusual. -
Re: Why are there so many clearing places?I wouldn't worry too much. The clearing places are for students who performed well but didn't get into the uni they wanted. I don't think they'll be handing out places to BBB students if the requirement was AAB. I actually got my place through clearing and I had the exact grades they required. My first choice was way out on what I could ever achieve and I didn't like my insurance. It's not just Exeter, if you look on UCAS most unis still have clearing positions.(Original post by GarethEvans)

Thanks for the info, what were your original choices may I ask? -
Re: Why are there so many clearing places? No problem. Nottingham was my first choice and I missed my offer by one grade (a couple of marks off an A). Leicester was my insurance and I decided to reject it because I didn't like the department.(Original post by GarethEvans)
