Had to get a ****ing C in maths and english :(
Hello

Basically I got a C in english and maths when I was at school, now im in my last year of college and set to get D* D* D* in my business diploma, this will give me 420 ucas points, however all the half decent university's want b's in mostly maths, do you reckon they would let me off due to the high amount of ucas points?
Thanks -
Re: Had to get a f**king C in maths and english :(
Ucas points don't really mean much. If they want a subject then you'll not get in without it.
I assume you are talking about a GCSE grade C right? Well just repeat the GCSE and enter for intermediate or higher tier.
Why because he has grade Cs at GCSE? A-level students also have C grades in those subjects.(Original post by Oliver1234)
This thread says alot about btecs !
or because he has 420pts but still may not get in?
Well you could have A*A*A* at A-level and still not get in if they want you to have a certain grade at GCSE.
get off your high horse please. -

Re: Had to get a f**king C in maths and english :(Yeah but i have yet to come across anyone who managed to achieve 3 A* or 4 A* at a level and could only get a C at GCSE . my point is btecs are easier than a levels , hardly the opinion of just me to be honest(Original post by bestofyou)

Re: Had to get a f**king C in maths and english :(Considering I missed a year of school and 3 months at the end of my final year I thought i did quite well(Original post by Oliver1234)

Re: Had to get a f**king C in maths and english :(Oh yeah i understand that, Im not expecting to go to like a top university with a btec, just wanted to know that if I could of got in to a certain university if i had a b, would they accept me because im doing quite well in my course.(Original post by charlie9872)
For these 'half decent' Universities you speak of, they generally will make grade offers. Just because you have the highest grades at Btec does not mean you can apply for AAA Uni's and expect to get in. An example of this would be my friend who got D*D*D* in his Btec, he's at Southampton Solent... -
Re: Had to get a f**king C in maths and english :(Just to make clear though (for other people following this thread) it is also perfectly possible to get into a Russell group universities requiring AAA for instance with high BTEC grades. It really does depend on the subject and how the units you studied in BTEC equate to the requirements of the degree. Universities such as Oxbridge do however state that they do not accept BTEC. People with BTEC qualifications just need to research the individual courses and requirements for each university.(Original post by charlie9872)

Re: Had to get a ****ing C in maths and english :(Easy. Your college should be able to do it for you. Just ask them about it. If not then you'll have to find a centre that will take you as a private candidate. You will have to self-teach though.(Original post by jackpolson1)
Thanks

I know plenty of people who got Cs in maths and went on to get As at A-level. I also know people who got As Bs at GCSE and dropped out of BTECs.(Original post by Oliver1234)

You have never studied a BTEC, so who would you know? BTECs just have a bad rep. Obviously an Engineering BTEC isn't as hard as Maths A-level and the same for sciences. But business studies A-level is likely no different than the BTEC. What is to say that OP couldn't have got AAA in Economics, History and Geography? -
Re: Had to get a ****ing C in maths and english :(Ask your college about retaking, its very simple if they offer it, it'll cost though........(Original post by jackpolson1)

Re: Had to get a ****ing C in maths and english :(Generally speaking a BTEC is easier than an A level that isnt even offensive . Failing a btec however is really just laziness , you can repeat work that you ddint get top marks on however at A level i have seen people work there arse off to come out with a c at A level now if your telling me that the hard work put into any decent A level to get an A is equivalent to the effort of achieving a distinction then give your head a wobble !(Original post by bestofyou)

Re: Had to get a f**king C in maths and english :(Oh? By what authority do you have to go around telling people what they're doing is easy? Did you do a BTEC and then do A-levels?(Original post by Oliver1234)
In year 13 so dont know where you got that from -
Re: Had to get a ****ing C in maths and english :(You have no idea what you're talking about. I know about 4 people who did a BTEC(6 unit) while doing A2 and all got distinctions. BTEC business is a joke compared to the A level, I've seen what they have to do and it really is just laughable to be honest(Original post by bestofyou)

Re: Had to get a ****ing C in maths and english :(that is a myth about repeating BTECs(Original post by Oliver1234)

If you don't get a distinction first time then you can't get one in that module. Plus you can only pull it up one grade.
Also, you can repeat A-levels no?
Any non-science A-level, anyone who 'works their ass off' clearly doesn't have a very good study technique or the learned most of the content well but ended up the big fat essay question at the end was on a topic the never revised. Which is down to laziness.
