GCSE Certificates - where can I get them and do I need them for uni enrolment?
I received my GCSE results in August 2010, but I was never given any certificates. My school only issued me with an A4 sheet with my subjects and the grades attained. Surprisingly, my sixth form college accepted this and that was the end of it.
My university enrolment is looming and in a recent email, they have asked that we bring the original certificates of any unverified qualifications. Does this include GCSEs (no GCSE was made part of my offer)?
Even if I don't need them for enrolment I'd still like to get my certificates but I don't know where to start, can anyone help?
Also, I can't just contact my old secondary school as they got bulldozed the following year.
Thanks.Last edited by anonystudent; 13-09-2012 at 00:33. -
Re: GCSE Certificates - where can I get them and do I need them for uni enrolment?
After doing my GCSEs the same year as you, I recieved my official certificates in November as something my high school dubbed a "reunion," where we were informed that they were expensive and "important." I haven't used them yet, for anything. And I'm not taking them to university to enroll, I haven't been told to anyways.
We were told that if we lost them, they cost around £30 to replace from the exam board, and that you'd need to get in touch with them, if I remember correctly. So, apologies if I'm wrong, but give your exam boards a call if you remember what you did

Re: GCSE Certificates - where can I get them and do I need them for uni enrolment? My school did a reunion event too, I just didn't want to go to it. I hated the place, and I was glad to not have to return. I heard they issued the certificates there but I'm surprised they didn't just mail them out to me.(Original post by Magikus)

Anyway, I'll see if I can get in touch with the exam boards. Thanks for that

Re: GCSE Certificates - where can I get them and do I need them for uni enrolment?
I put my GCSE (and A-Level) certificates in my "Record of Achievement" folder (do people still have those?) shortly after I received them. In 16 years, no one has ever asked to see them, for any reason, ever.
I wouldn't worry about it. -
Re: GCSE Certificates - where can I get them and do I need them for uni enrolment?Check with your school first. If you didn't attend your reunion event, your school should still have your certificates - they don't just throw them away. Therefore check with them if they have your certificates. If so, then money saved. If not, then it's a faff because you have to inform all your different exam boards (Edexcel, OCR etc.) and then pay them each for various certificates.(Original post by anonystudent)

Plus they take 30 days to process.
Don't underestimate the importance of keeping all your certificates! I got them, kept them somewhere and over time just lost track of where they were. Now, applying for jobs and having to submit certificates means a furious scramble to find old certificates. Annoying! -
Re: GCSE Certificates - where can I get them and do I need them for uni enrolment?
At our high school we had 'graduation' in October after we had all gone off to college to collect our certificates. People who didn't attend got the certificates sent to them
I'd check with your school how it's been done

i never recieve certificates either, but on my letter it states i have to bring 'certificates (excluding GCSE's)' despite the fact that certificates and grade where not a condition, best to email the university and ask
