How long does it take to get paid on jobseekers?
I applied for jobseekers on the 5th and had my interview today (13th). My next sign in date is the 27th, exactly two weeks. I've heard you don't get any money until a few days after you first sign on, so does this mean that I'm going to have no money for over 2 weeks? I literally have nothing, wouldn't even be able to attend any job interviews.I'm not sure I can last over 2 weeks with no money
(before people have a go at me, I'm not scrounging. I've been actively looking for a job for ages and I got BBC in my a levels so I am intelligent and I do want to work)

Re: How long does it take to get paid on jobseekers?People will not have a go at you. You only become eligible for JSA on the 5th, at which point your guardian/parent stopped receiving child benefit. This means you have only been unemployed for eight days!(Original post by Lokzia)

In terms of receiving money, I will quote my response in another thread: 'it depends upon your local processing office, but I imagine they are all overworked at the moment; it will be significantly worse if you live in Wales, Yorkshire, the north east or west though. For my current claim it took over two months before I received any money. I applied when I finished my job on 31/05 and received a manual payment on 03/08 (i.e. someone had to make a manual back payment because the system simply does not work as well as it should). My case was on hold and if I had not pestered them then I probably would not have received any money for even longer than this'.
Given that this is your first ever claim there should be no problems; I would guess you would receive money about a month after your application date. Realistically, you probably will not get an interview before then. But if you do go and speak to someone in your local Jobcentre; they should be able to give you some money. -
Re: How long does it take to get paid on jobseekers?I dunno, that was just the date that they gave me because they make you sign on every 2 weeks not every 1 week right?(Original post by sassy123)
Why do you have to wait so long can't you sign on next week? Only idiots will judge you their is nothing wrong with claiming JSA.
Well not really haha, because i've been out of education now since June so i've been unemployed since then! But hmmm okay, thats quite a long time to wait but I guess I'll manage somehow!(Original post by evantej)

Re: How long does it take to get paid on jobseekers?
You won't get any money until a few days after you sign on, you don't get paid in advance. They have to check that you have been looking for work before they pay you, so it's every 2 weeks after sign on.
My last sign on date is next Friday, I'm glad to be out of that place... -
Re: How long does it take to get paid on jobseekers?Aw, gratz on finding work, if you don't mind me asking though how long were you on jobseekers for?(Original post by biffyclyro27)

Re: How long does it take to get paid on jobseekers? Thanks, it will be about 3 months by the time I finish. But to be honest, I didn't really look that hard for a job to begin with, as I was on holiday for a fair while.(Original post by Lokzia)

Re: How long does it take to get paid on jobseekers?Yes- but they do backdate it to the day you made the initial phone call and they went through a questionnaire with you.(Original post by Lokzia)

If you have a job interview, ring them and they will give you some money that you will pay back out of your benefit.
If any bills pop up- just ring and explain and they will be understanding but they will expect you to pay the day you get your first payment (on the third working day after you have signed) -
Re: How long does it take to get paid on jobseekers? If you finished your A levels in June then you only become eligible for JSA when your child benefit runs out, which means you have only been unemployed - so far as the government are concerned - since the start of September!(Original post by Lokzia)

Re: How long does it take to get paid on jobseekers?
Also- NEVER go by how long someone has been on Jobseekers for. Some will be on a few days, weeks, months- some are on it long tearm (more than 9 months) and are referred to the work programme. It depends on the jobs in your area, be prepared to do something you DON'T want to do- qualifications aside. I had to take a gap year in between college and university and had to work as cleaner- I had the qualifications to do much more but it was all I could get at the time.

Re: How long does it take to get paid on jobseekers? You're treated the same as any other young unemployed person whether you left education at the age of 10 or have just graduated with a first. Don't expect anything the jobcentre do to remotely aid you in your job search.(Original post by mangoh)
I signed on around 1st Sept.
I haven't been paid yet but judging by this thread that is fairly normal, it's not been 2 weeks and probably too much of a busy period for them.
I've got to attend a "mandatory group session for 18-24 year olds"
Has anyone been on this, what can I expect?
Sounds like a waste of time as my CV is very good, qualifications not that bad (overqualified by the looks of it
) and I'm getting enough help.
I refuse to accept my CV is crap, i've got help from family (someone with a law degree), connexions, TSR and I generally know how to write a good CV.

Re: How long does it take to get paid on jobseekers?to sit in a room with maybe 4 or 5 other people and have someone read from a powerpoint for 15-30 minutes(Original post by mangoh)

Re: How long does it take to get paid on jobseekers? The two day course was so boring, the people that actually needed help just sat there barely listeninng or taking notes. I, on the other hand who knew all of it, it was fairly boring and basic, found myself taking notes because if your there for 5 hours, might as well do something, as opposed to starting at the ceiling. It's going to be a long two days, and it won't help you at all. The jobcentre are just getting you to go on so your officially off their records as unemployed and therefore on a course, the person who was lecturing us told me that himself in an informal chat...(Original post by mangoh)
Oh FML
Lol it's going to be like year 10 all over again... "on work experience I want you to be polite..."
Anyone feel so depressed and had the slight urge to ask someone out?
Just thinking "don't give a **** and just go for it?"
