The Black Mesa Thread
I didn't see one so I made one

For those who don't know, Black Mesa is a half-life 2 mod, recreating the original half-life in the half-life 2 (source) engine. It's been in development since 2004 and is being released in 6 minutes from now:

I am anxiously staring at that counter along with many other thousands! -
Re: The Black Mesa ThreadPerhaps another go with the source engine and fancy graphics may change your mind?(Original post by mikeyd85)
I never got on with Half Life, despite completing it. Just wasn't my thing at the time (I'd just discovered the joys of Unreal Tournament online), but this really is a great thing for those who want a decent story driven FPS. -
Re: The Black Mesa ThreadI doubt that, simply because HL doesn't do what I like in single player FPS games. Put it this way, the last single player FPS I really enjoyed was Far Cry. It's the epuitome of FPS games for me tbh. Large, open maps with non linear gameplay (I've found multiple ways to complete several of the levels) and above all, boss stealth elements.(Original post by Andy Denyer)

It's all about the online for me these days. It's a much better challenge for me. -
Re: The Black Mesa ThreadI can see why you wouldn't like half life then- its always been the opitomy of a corridor shooter...(Original post by mikeyd85)

Far Cry was an awesome game though
- should really play through it again at one point...
for me, half life will always have a special place in my life... remeber hours of sitting in a chair next to my dad watching him play it.. then when i was slightly older.. playing it myself... - being a 9 year old kid, and facing the blast pit/mowing down soilders/beating the nilieth(sp?) was just awesome... -- then a bit later we rigged up 4 quite bad computors, a curtain system so no one could screen hack.. and used to have lan parties in my attic... few years on, we uploaded half life to all of the computors in one of the schools IT rooms.. and used to play massive games...
really has followed me through my life...
not to mention waiting 7 years for half life 2... -
Re: The Black Mesa ThreadYeah I think so. The vorts are much harder now I think. Their ROF seems so have increased a lot.(Original post by Psyk)
Was Half Life always this difficult? The soldiers have pretty good aim and it only takes one to take you down. -
Re: The Black Mesa Threadon hard mode - it was pretty insane... - just played through it recently.. soilders would kill you if you didnt shoot first... and most aliens were pretty devistating, unless you got the jump on them/could hide and avoid there fire(Original post by Psyk)

Re: The Black Mesa ThreadWhy is everyone so bothered about it being on steam? Are you not capable of downloading and installing something yourself?(Original post by rich2606)
When is it going to be on Steam?!
Also just been playing it, I don't really know what to think as I have never played Half Life before. -
Re: The Black Mesa Threadive always wondered what people new to the serries would think of it... i mean - i love the orriginal to bits - dated graphics and all...(Original post by Scott1541)

and at the time, it was the best game. bar none. - it was so so so far ahead of the curve..
but now, yes it will definatly make old fans like me happy (and there are many of us) - but what will new people think?
- i also cant help think its lost some of the magic... ive just started to play through it.. and yes it looks lovely.. but i miss the graphics of the original
- the soundtrack, the way it played
- i guess for me, i didnt realise how much of my love of the game, is tied up with the magical nostalgic feel of playing a game from my childhood - and how much of that is lost, when you take away how it looked, sounds and feels...

Re: The Black Mesa Threadnot sure why this is getting negged...(Original post by FuLLuPMepOrtION)
