Which Computer Science Degree?
I went into college with the firm belief that I would go into something like Banking/ Accounting, I hadn't even considered University at the time. I now want to do Computer Science, ideally in a field related to Finance. Most Uni's are asking for an A in A-Level Maths whilst some are even asking for Further Maths.
After College I have 3 D* in Double Business and I.T plus a C in A/S Economics. Unfortunately, most of the Uni's I am looking at do not accept BTEC's, even some that do only accept those relating to the degree.
Due to Health Problems I was unable to go to Uni this year, this has allowed me to take A-Levels that would help my application for Computer Science - I will be taking A-Level Maths and Economics as a private candidate.
I have already started doing the A-Level Maths and to be honest I am getting a long fine. It would be pretty hard to study the Further Maths now since I am still studying Maths. My doctor has advised that recovery time would be anything from a year to two years. Do you think I should continue doing the A-Level Maths and Economics this year and then take Further Maths next year?
It would just be like me doing my A-Levels again, I just wish I knew what I wanted to do then. In the second year I also plan to get some work experience in I.T to aid my application. I am determined to do well plus I am getting help from Tutors, with a bit of hard work I am sure I could do well.
I do not know much about Universities and how Degrees and Masters work. Say, I get an AAA in Maths, F Maths and Economics alongside my 2 BTECS, what Computer Science degree should I apply for if I want to use the skills learned in Comp Science in Finance?
Is it possible to do Computer Science with a Year in Industry and then take a Masters in Finance? If not, what routes are there for Computer Science Graduates to go into Finance?
I am sorry for the huge post but lastly, I was wondering whether Uni's would look down upon the fact that I would have attained my A-Levels over the course of 4 years?
Thank you for your patience in reading this, looking forward to hearing from you all! -
Re: Which Computer Science Degree?check some of the universities and their computer science courses it may help you decide also i'm not sure whether you can switch from computing to finance you have to email the tutors. Also i wouldn't bother doing further maths...the Maths on its own will be fine!!(Original post by Wiska)

Re: Which Computer Science Degree?
I have contacted a few, including Imperial but they usually ask you to send these kind of enquiries by email and once you have done so the reply they give is very vague, they often just tell you to check the entry requirements on the website :/
Ideally I'd like to go to a University in London as I don't want to travel too far, this would make my top choices include places like Sussex and Imperial. Is it possible to take a Masters in Finance if you have done Computer Science? -
Re: Which Computer Science Degree?Removed a part of the quote but I'll address it now: You haven't done your A-levels over 4 years, you've done them over 2! You are not a resit candidate and you have the very same chance as everybody else!(Original post by Wiska)

Yes, that is possible. You can often apply for a masters after a 3 year degree. There's a business marketing for computer science course available on some compsci degrees, so choose that one if you're interested in finance! Most CS grads don't need any finance qualifications, as they are already endowed with the necessary skills, so if that's the only reason you want a masters in accounting, don't bother!
Best of luck to you!
