I did it with Human Biology.
I flunked my ISA and got a U in it, which brought me down to a D overall, so I resat HBio1 and the ISA in A2 and got B's in everything across the board.
Totally possible if you put your mind to it and work hard!
Anything is possible. Just like the previous poster, I went from a D in AS to an A in A2.

...I wouldn't want to put you off before you've even started, but I absolutely hated Le Silence de la Mer. Admittedly I didn't even read it properly, and for exams I just used the two films we studied, which were Au Revoir Les Enfants and La Haine. I was glad to do them rather than regions but that may be because I also did Media Studies, so I was used to analysing films. I found everything easier in second year because it's less of a jump than GCSE to AS, so she may be right there :P Some of my class did enjoy the book by the way so don't assume you'll hate it haha, just giving my opinion.

Oh yeah, are you going to resit that? When I was preparing for my resit I just did several practice papers on every single topic, so I knew I'd be able to answer whatever came up. I can't remember the question I answered, but I do remember that I basically had a set answer for it in my head the second I saw it, thanks to my revision

Oh really? well i've read most of it already, it was okay i thought. Not the most interesting but it's the shortest book out of the lot so i'm okay with it :P
And yeah although studying a film would be much more interesting I think i'd prefer a region only because I think I wouldn't have to use as much of a specialized vocab? Idk that's what it seems like in my head. Whatever my teacher decided though I wouldn't mind either way
Yes I'm definitely going to re-sit my AS... cannot keep it as a U! I know i can do much better, and my teacher was even surprised at how badly I did because even she expected me to do far better. I'm just glad that French isn't like maths/physics which has loads of modular exam papers. I'll just try again in Jan and this time i'll put much more effort in - Think i concentrated too much on the oral last time because I was so scared! XD xx

That's fine then, enjoying it should make it a lot easier  We didn't really have to use much specialised vocab, at least I don't remember learning any. Chances are, any film-specific vocab is stuff you'll automatically know if you know the film well enough. So, it could be a problem if you haven't paid any attention (that's the problem I had with the book, hence why it helps to enjoy it).
Hopefully your resit will go well, I found it much easier than the original!

Completely possible; took an E last year in Sociology to a B this year (Managed to get a U in one paper -_-).

Without resits, going from 118/200 UMS at AS (D) to 280/400 at A2 (B) would require you to get 162/200 at A2 (A).

Perhaps this is why your teacher is so reluctant to predict you a B? Nevertheless, you could always take a gap year if you don't want to apply with predictions.

Just had anther student go from D to A*. Still possible without January resits, it seems.

I got a D for Law at first (AQA) retook them alongside the A2 units and got an A overall.
I'm at Birmingham Uni btw, so it worked so for me too

i went from an e with retakes to a b, 3 ums off an a for AS maths, but dropped a2, though in hindsight i should have kept a2 going, it was just a bad teacher
i also went from a d at as to a b at a2 overall with one retake in DT

however it i pretty clear that my other 2 subjects didnt get as much time as needed so i would advise you to think long and hard about focussing on getting one grade up if it will leave you ignoring your other subjects

Hi,

I got 126 UMS for history, which is a C and 64 UMS for my coursework which is a B one mark off an A.

Is it achievable to get a B overall?

What would I need to get?

Thanks

gosh i wrote this post in 2012.. i have to think now as its been 3 years since i left school! i would say that yes its possible - i might look at resitting the first exam if you can jsut to boost your grades, but that aside, if yo get an A in the next exam you might be ok - but id need to sit down and remember exactly how the alevel marking system works to give you a definitive answer and tell you what you need to get - id need some more info too

Hey,

Can someone help me in regards to my question and situation:
{Applying to UNI with no AS qualifications)

June 2014: (Gave up in school)
AS Mathematics : C1: U C2: U C3: U
AS Economics: F581: U F582: U
AS ICT: Info 1: U Info 2: U

June 2015: (Assume these are my grades)
[Self taught] AS Mathematics: C1: D C2: U S1: U
[Self taught] AS Economics: F581: U F582: U

September 2015:
[Study BTEC Subsidiary Diploma Business at College and complete qualification in One Year]
[Self teach AS Mathematics (Retake all units) , A2 Mathematics and AS Economics (Retake all units) and A2 Economics]

October 2015:
APPLYING TO UNIVERSITY FOR SEPTEMBER 2016 ENTRY
In my application, can I put AS grades as Pending aswell as A2 grades as Pending
If my Reference gives me Predicted Distinction*BB, will QMUL (Accounting & Management BSC) give me an offer such as DistinctionAB despite no AS qualifications and I'm a retake student. Assuming reference and personal statement is Satisfactory.

If this question is not in the right place, please direct me to where I should ask the question.
Thank you.

you may or may not be able to - it depends if your school/college has certificated the grades that you got at AS or not - mine didn't so i could put pending, but if they did then you have to declare the grades
