How long does milk keep after the use-by date?
I drank some hot chocolate made with hot milk, and I've just realised that it's use-by date was 11th September. I didn't notice anything off about the taste or the smell of my drink and when I smelled the milk in the carton it didn't smell off. I hate the smell of milk anyway but it didn't seem foul.

It's been refrigerated since we got it so if it doesn't smell bad or have chunks in it does that mean I'll be okay?

That's over a week after it's use by date? Throw it away if you haven't already done so. You should be fine.

I never let my milk get to that stage but seeing as you've already drank it, just see what happens - if you get the ****s you get the ****s, nothing you can do about it, just embrace the imminent brown explosion.

Just don't let it get to the use-by-date next time. simples.

if it tasted fine and you didnt get sick, id either throw it away or drink it all soonish...

im not a fan of using stuff past the expiry date...theres a reason why the damn thing exists...

My milk usually struggles to make it to the use by date before going off....

But if it's left unopened it can last longer. As you never noticed the smell or anything it'll probs be fine

if it smells fine and tastes fine then probably is fine. if it's bad milk though, you'll know about it fairly quickly.

I normally icnore use by dates if it smells fine looks fine and tastes fine it is fine. Use by dates are just an estimate to stop people sueing the food companys.

I don't trust milk over a day or two past it's date. That said, if you have a strong stomach, and it looks/smells fine then you'll be OK. An unwritten rule of mine is that if it smells good then it's fine.

As already been said the use by/best before dates are just a rough estimate to cover the producers back, a lot of the time the produce will be good past them but I like to stick to them anyway just to make sure and dont risk it with potentially dodgy food. Theres also a difference between best before and use by too as im sure youre aware.
Whenever I buy milk it rarely makes it to its use by date but if it smells OK and tastes OK then you should be fine, with milk you can definitely tell if its gone bad. At uni I also have a problem with bread lasting

As long as it is white and sticky you can drink it.

    Hope this helps

Milk is one of the few foods to actually go off on the actual date specified it should have stunk terribly.
