which is the best contract for iphone 5 ? or pay as you go?
Hi I'm thinking of getting either the 02 :
15gb iphone : £26 per month, unlimited texts, unlimited calls and 1gb data - 24months. But with handset cost £249.99
or three's £34 per month for all you can eat data, 5000 texts, 500mins - 24 months- handset cost £79.
Which one seems more worth it?
I'm not sure about O2's data usage-would 1gb be enough ?- I would be using it mainly for facebook, youtube and emails.
I was also thinking of pay as you go with giffgaf but they don't have nano sims.
Thanks in advanceLast edited by rhstar; 19-09-2012 at 21:02. -

I don't know if this plan would work or not, so apologies if I'm speaking rubbish.
Could you buy the iPhone itself, then go on the £10 a month plan from GiffGaff?
I'm sure my friend said she gets unlimited texts on it.
Then, because you own the phone, sell it on when you want to upgrade.

Re: which is the best contract for iphone 5 ? or pay as you go?That I was planning to do but haven't found a good nano sim deal? Giffgaff aren't coming out with one for months.(Original post by bin94)
Buy the phone sim free for £529 and then get a sim only deal- it works out cheaper in the long run.
That's what I'm going to do

I'm in the same boat and was going to go for the O2 one until I've just found out about 3's plan. After 24 months the price is pretty much the same. Do you think 1GB will be enough and what is threes coverage like?
I don't know what to do? I also keep thinking should I wait another year. Ahhh

which is the best contract for iphone 5 ? or pay as you go?Couldn't you just get a normal deal and then transfer the contract onto a blank nano sim maybe from the apple store? If you get the contract first and then buy the phone from Apple ask them to transfer your contract(Original post by rhstar)

Re: which is the best contract for iphone 5 ? or pay as you go?
Three's essential internet sim 200 doesn't seems like a bad idea. 200 mins, 5000 texts and 500mb for 6.90 a month for 12 months; unlimited data can be purchased as an add on for an extra £3 a month giving a grand total of....£9.90 Also if you get the sim through topcashback you get 50 odd quid back so it works out at 2.73 for 500mb or 5.73 a month with the addon....

Re: which is the best contract for iphone 5 ? or pay as you go?Why can't they be both? :P.(Original post by Miza)
People who buy Iphone 5 are either mad or rich.
@ people who want GiffGaff, there are cut-down nano sims on eBay for £0.99 with £5 free credit (no I am not the seller...). GiffGaff (O2) is decent but they don't get good signal in my area, and I do believe the unlimited data is gonna be cut down to < 1GB for the £10 goodybag in the next few months.
I think the best deal for the phone right now involves ordering it online with cashback from TCB/Quidco (3%), getting a new nano sim from 3 , again with cashback from Quidco of around £25, a 1 month rolling contract too (all you can eat data @ £12.90 a month), I'm getting ridiculous speeds on this (18 MBps in Central London, and it's not even LTE). I also sold the headphones on eBay to recoup some cash (they're going for around £40). That would cut down the price of the phone to around £400 for the 16 GB model.. still a rip off though. And yep I bought one.. cause I bought two, and sold the other one on eBay for twice what I paid for it
.
Honestly the phone screams, but I'm really not liking returning to Cupertino Penitentiary (no jailbreak) and I'm missing my 3GS already. Here's to hoping for a jailbreak ASAP, iPhones really are worthless without a jailbreak.Last edited by Creative; 23-09-2012 at 01:17. -
Re: which is the best contract for iphone 5 ? or pay as you go?
The cheapest and best value for money is Three's One Plan at £36 per month and an initial fee of £79. That's a total of £943.
Even if you bought the phone outright from Apple for £529 and got a cheap contract/payg sim it's going to work out very close to the £943. For example, £529 + (£12.90 x 24 months) = £838, but that'll only get you 600 minutes and 1GB of data compared to the One plan's 2,000 minutes and all you can eat data with free tethering (use the internet from your phone on your laptop or wifi ipad). For the extra £100 over 24 months I think it's worth it. Especially when the biggest payment you ever need to make in one go is the £79 and not £529!
I worked this out before buying my phone from Three last friday because since the original iPhone, I've bought the handset and used a payg sim. -

Re: which is the best contract for iphone 5 ? or pay as you go?Yes, I've calculated it including 2 x 12 month sim-only contracts to make a fair comparison with a 24 month contract.(Original post by bin94)
With sim only plans I only get 12 month contacts. I can't deal with having a 24month contract :/

Otherwise you'll be comparing a phone that you pay for and get service with for 24 months and a phone you'll pay for an get service with for 12 months. Hardly fair. -
Re: which is the best contract for iphone 5 ? or pay as you go?It does. Mine is already scuffed.(Original post by bin94)
I've read that the black iPhone 5 scratches easily and the paint comes off of the aluminium, that's put me off it a bit now
