Studying law as a mature student in Scotland
I've been considering going to study law for a while now however I don't have any Highers as I left school after doing my standard grades (all 2s-4s) in the hope I'd eventually work out what I wanted to do but I never really did. I've ended up working in a lawyer's office for the past 4 years doing paralegal work (albeit without an actual qualification), prior to that I worked as a sales assistant for over a year while I did some random college courses trying to "find myself". I noticed on the Uni websites that they accept mature students (I'm 25 now) especially if they have gained life experience in the area of work they are looking to study. Would that be enough to get me in or would I absolutely need to sit some Highers? I've emailed a few people about it but nobody has replied as of yet. I've been out of education for a long time now so I'm not sure how it all works, sorry!! thanks

Re: Studying law as a mature student in Scotland
I'm not up to speed on any differences with studying Law in England/Scotland, but my general advice re. Uni entry is this :
The Unis will want to see some evidence that you can study/write/read at Uni level (especially for something as demanding as Law). So far you havnt got this. But what you have got is lots of motivation AND some very relevant experience.
You need to contact some University Law Depts and ask specifically what they would require you to do as a pre-requisite as a mature student without Highers. Usually this information is available on Uni websites but you might have to 'dig' a bit. This might include a Foundation Law or Social Science year, an Access course or a relevant Open University unit for instance.
Universities will be sympathetic and helpful. They like mature students as they usually do very well. Go for it.
