im a week in t my course and i hate being 4 hours away from home in cardiff do you think i could transfer to a different uni asap or will i have to wait and aplly next year?

It may be possible if they have clearing vacancies. If not, then you could consider a transfer to the second year. Bear in mind though that universities only take transfers into the second year if the modules are the same as the university you are currently at and also you would have to apply through ucas again for entry into the second year.
Its worth checking with the university you want to go to and their transfer policies.
