Diagnostic radiography

Hey everyone, I'm new to this site! I'm just preparing to apply to do the DIagnostic radiography degree at cccu! Does anyone know how popular the degree is and whether many people apply as there are not many places available.

Hope someone can help
The degree is very popular now and a lot of people are applying. People that got on the course with ease 5 years ago would find it much harder applying today. There is also a lot of uncertainty surrounding NHS jobs ... but if you're really serious about it, you can make it work.

Work experience is essential. And it's important to bear in mind that it isn't the same university experience as students get studying academic/all theory degrees. But this suits some people.

It seems all healthcare degrees are becoming difficult which is a shame! I'm currently working as a hca and have escorted some clients to xrays and MRI scans, would this count? Will look for more also!

Thanks for the reply

If you're already a HCA it should be easier for you to get a proper shadowing day on the department as they don't have to worry about insurance and confidentiality as you're already an employee. That's what I found anyway, a lot of prospective students have a hard time trying to get the experience day but I just walked in in my uniform and asked!

That won't count as experience but it will show that you have worked as part of a multidisciplinary team. Your trust's HR team will get you some work experience sorted if the superintendent radiographer can't. Hope this helps.

Hi guys,

New here but thought I'd post my question here to avoid making a new thread.

Basically I am very interested in Diagnostic Radiography at University, I have some work experience lined up and am pushing to get the grades I need.

However I have one lingering question. I am not the worlds strongest person, would this be a problem in this course and job? I am fairly fit, and feel like I would be fine with constantly moving around all day, but heavy lifting ect could pose a problem.

Thank you

EDIT: just seen the diagnostic radiography 2013 thread, will post this there as well

No there's always someone to help out and equipment to help with manual handling. Health and Safety rules mean that you can't do anything that would pose an adverse risk to your health.
