Are bowls healthy for any fish?
Are there any kinds of fish that might be healthy in a bowl, or do you just have to accept the tank and expensive upkeep if you want fish?

I had a goldfish which lived for years and years in a bowl and grew into an absolute beast! Then we got a new small one, and the big one bullied it

We have 2 male fighter fish and used to have a female until she died a few days ago. 1 of our males was in a bowl on and off for quite a while, they are hardy fish and if you are gonna get any Id say a fighter. However long term its cruel as they need to swim about and the water in a bowl tends to get slimy after only a day or two so youd be changing it all the time.
My partner must change our tanks monthly at the very most and our fish are well (the fighters are, guppies arent as strong)

Its possible to keep goldfish in bowls, I know a few people who have done it for years. I'm not sure about tank sizes for tropical fish but they do need a heater, which I suppose could be quite expensive to run.
The sad goldfish lover side of me really can't resist saying: please, please don't keep a goldfish in bowl, they need space, filteration and plenty of sand to sift through. I'm sure there are plenty of people who will shout me down and say that they're just fish, but my two fancy goldfish, who have a proper tank and a strong filter, are so much more active and seem a lot happier than any I've seen in bowls.

Yes this is what I was thinking. I don't think we can afford a big tank. Would 25 litres be big enough for a single goldfish? If not I was thinking of getting a smaller fish that needs less space.

Why don't you buy a small tank that size instead? Curved bowls are not good for any fish and are also difficult to attach filters in bowls.
Also for goldfish they should be in at least a 60 litre tank else they will outgrow any tank that smaller in about a year.

Goldfish are okay in a bowl, but they probably won't be too comfortable. Tropical fish or any kind of exotic goldfish (you can get black ones, you know!) you need a tank really.

Yes I meant a 25 litre tank. Not a bowl. My question is what kind of fish would have enough space in a small tank.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm not personally a fan of crustaceans. Also its a present for my husband who really likes fish, specifically.

Well if its a heated aquarium then try neon tetra (theres plenty of others around that size aswell) if its a coldwater one then white cloud minnows would your best bet.

I have a goldfish in my pond that is 4 and a half feet long please please please dont put goldfish in small tanks. For a 25 litre tank you could have some white cloud mountain windows or a a single male siamese fighter
