What to do when you feel yourself slipping into depression/low mood to up your mood?
I have had depression several times in the past and know all of the tell-tale signs. I have just moved back to university and as usual, loneliness is taking it's toll and I can feel that low mood coming on, lack of motivation and energy setting in. Apart from talking to people, what else do you do to get yourself out of such states? I've tried music, but i've already listened to too much now and it's lost its mood lift element for a while.

Try watching TV or a film? Or have you tried writing or drawing? I don't know, maybe just something to keep your mind occupied. I like going for walks, although it may be getting a bit cold for that, haha.
I don't know. I know when you feel like that it's hard to do anything...

I tend to draw when I'm feeling down as it's kind of like releasing frustrations or chanelling negative emotions onto the page. I also read my positive thinking diary in order to help lift my mood.
I recently was discovered to suffer from mild depression (although I had a hunch) and while I still have moments when extreme sadness hits, I now am managing to pick myself back up a lot easier. -

Have a bath with some nice music on. It's surprising how much a nice bath does. Sometimes going for a walk helps but not always as sometimes it just gives me more time to think about whats getting me down. Reading a book which you can get lost into. For a quick fix I write upside down with my left hand as I end up concentrating on that. Putting on some happy music that makes you want to dance around. Chocolate!!

I dont get to depressed often but when i feel down i just hit the gym or something and i feel better.
I dont go to uni's but i am sure if you join a sports club you will feel better. When i go to my sports club i cant wait, and when i get there i am brimming with happiness! No matter how bad my day has been, the fact i can go makes the whole day awesome! -

Listen to dance/upbeat music and get lost in that...or if I am particularly low I go to a club or gig.
Only thing I feel which really lifts my mood hehe
Oh, you have tried music...well exercise is proven to lift your mood. Massage/relaxation therapies to get rid of tension...trying to spend as much time as possible with people who love/like you...movies with happy endings....taking on a new challenge and motivating yourself to complete it that will be beneficial to yourself and others i.e maybe trying a first aid course or something like that...walking...looking after a pet
many things really

Whenever I'm feeling crappy i got to the gym, come back from it feeling a lot better, especially if you walk past a mate stuffing his face with greasy chips, chip fat all over his hands and a can of coke sticking out his pocket, then he asks if you've just been to the gym, and you just nod, nod and smile, then he makes his excuse, you feel that warmth in your chest as you smile again ... yeah sure bro is what you to yourself, I believe you when i see you down the gym.
Then you stroll and he continues eating his chips.
now i want some damn chips

Make some enchiladas (the ultimate comfort food) and watch a funny film. Or I go cycling, that usually helps clear my head. And this is weird, but I tend to do my hair and makeup when I'm sad. I don't know why, but it makes me feel better..

Interesting suggestion, does it work?(Original post by Tabers)
