The not funny funny bone injury
Hi guys.
I was kart racing this saturday and had a kart go over the right side of me, it hit my elbow really hard and then my right hand. I was in agony for about 30seconds and genuinely thought me hand was badly broken. Once the paramedics got to me they took my glove off and luckily it wasn't broken. My ring finger and little finger were completely numb (like pins and needles) and the inside of my arm was acheing hugely. These are all symptoms of a severe hit to the ulura?? nerve (funny bone) and the paramedics said that the pain should subside after an hour or two.
I'm now sitting here 30 hours later with my ring and pinky still very numb, the ache has subsised however if I put any strain on my arm then I have a sharp pain on the inside of the elbow. Once again all consistent with the nerve being hit, however how is the strange bit. I cannot put any pressure between my thumb and the middle of the index finger, there is no pain but i simply cannot produce any pressure there, however I can with my other hand.
How long should I wait before going too see a doctor if the symptoms continue??? -

Ah, I'll go and speak to the nurse at my sixth form tommorow and see what she says.
The fingers being numb seems to be normal for this kind of injury from what I have read on the web. However what I'm more worried about is the pain on the inside of my elbow and the lack of power I can apply with my index finger. -
Re: The not funny funny bone injury
A couple of years ago I accidentally knocked my elbow hard on a wall. I had the numbness you've described in my ring and little fingers and all down that side of the my palm. The numbness went away after a couple of days but to this day I can still feel a difference in the sensitivity in the area. Also be prepared for any future knock you have on that elbow. It will probably no longer be the familiar funny bone sensation but a rather more painful experience like you had for those 30 seconds and more numbing of the two fingers.
My injury was a little different so I can't comment on the trouble you're having with your grip. -
Re: The not funny funny bone injury
I've got a doctors appointment booked for this evening. Its still feeling as numb and I havent gained any more grip on my thumb so I thought it was the best thing to do.
They will probably just say to wait and see however it is making my normally just legible writing almost illegible and real pain since I can't grip things properly in my right hand, from my internet research it seems that since it has continued this long I may have moved the nerve, and to see if this is the cause they will have to run a pretty painful test which involves sticking electrocuted needles in your arm. Oh how fun.
