Booking flights for gap year travels?
I'm planning to travel to the US for around 8 weeks next year in around April/May.I just wondered when would be best to book the tickets in the hope of getting the best day? I was browsing British Airways and tbh the prices if I were to leave next week are very similar to if I were to leave in April. So is there any need to book early, or can I leave it to February/March?

Booking through a travel agent such as STA is usually cheaper and sites likeskyscanner will through up the cheapest airlines id use them
generally booking earlier is cheaperbut it depends on the day as there seemsto be 'peak times' with air travel, like a sunday night i think is a pretty bad one due to commuters etc.

Oh really? I always thought travel agents were pointless! So would you recommend doing that? not entirely sure of my plans yet, but trying to get the cheapest flight possible!

I just found out it strange since leaving on the 1st October for 2 months still seemed very cheap despite the close proximity!

    I'll google STA!

Aye same but ive always found that trying to book through the airline itself seems to be more expensive, might just be me getting unlucky but who knows
STA is [or atleast used to be] aimed at student/budget travelers so is usually cheaper the one i use is trailfinders
I think it depends when/whereyou fly to as during high season to certain places will naturally be more expensive so if it doesnt matter too much when you're leaving/arriving id try and find a time slightly more off the beaten track lest the fees go through the roof

Ah yeah, once you include taxes the price is fairly similar to what I saw on BA!. When are you starting your travels? Ah I think I'll probably wait until Feb/March time then before I book since it seems like the prices don't fluctuate too much!

Ah been reading reviews for American Airlines which comes up on British Airways flights to the US and it seems terrible!

Aye American airlines in general have never exactly been praised for their quality of service, theres a good reason PanAm went under [aside from the fact half of its fleet got hijacked and blown up in the desert:rolleyes:] If you want good airlines the Asian ones generally offer the best service

Haha yup, airfaresare quite reasonable untill you see how much the tax man taxes on top -_- May i ask where you're flyingto in the states as some airlines go to different cities asaposed to others

Im starting my travels on the 21st, not long now
