I think my combination is quite good as i get to see the both worlds. I do BTEC business level 3 along with 2 a-levels in Chemistry and Product Design. When i say my combination to others and teachers they say that's an interesting combination.

Don't make me laugh

1. We are comparing BTEC to A level.

2. Look at the number of jobless graduates.

Don't make me laugh.

BTECs are generally easier than ALevels. Yes, they are level 3 but instead of revising and facing the pressure of exams-BTEC students can work at their own pace and comfortably edit their work.

Because in the real world you have exactly 3 hours to do a job and cannot use any resources apart from your brain.

You cannot compare BTECs to strictly academia. Someone might do well in BTEC and thus get a job and do it just as well. Had he gone to do A levels and then uni he would have done badly, gotten a poor degree from a poor uni, be in debt and jobless like so many graduates.

We need to provide alternatives to uni. Uni is not and cannot be the be all end all for young people in terms of life prospects.

I did BTEC, and I'm awesome.

I actually think BTEC in some subjects makes so much more sense. For example, at my college we have two types of lessons, 55 minute and 1 hour 15 minute lessons. For each subject you have two of each. Imagine you're doing sport or art a level, what can you really achieve in that 55 minute slot? If you do a BTEC in these more "pratical" based subjects I'm sure you'll get more out of it. In art, it would allow you time to "get into the zone" and you wouldn't be stop and starting a piece constantly. You'd probably get a good two hour slot to work on it, at least. With sport you'd be able to do the pratical and theory together and gather a strong understanding or at least be able to do some decent training and play a proper game. That's just my view on it. For some, but not all subjects, BTEC's are much more suitable than A levels.

Because they failed a levels or are not intelligent enough to do a levels. Btec has a lot of work but youre guaranteed a good grade.

well I've decided to be more ignorant by proving the hard work BTEC students do, this it my folder from 2nd year of my BTEC.

ah...
You think just because you've got more down on paper it means you work harder than a level students. Well my notes and everything that I wrote down on paper can make up about half of that pile. you might have more on paper, but do you know how much time we have to spend revising from books and notes? Trying understand some theories in chemistry, I bet its more challenging than copying and pasting stuff from articles. at my college btec students have one day off and it's called "study day" it's ridiculous. Stop trying to pretend you work a lot more harder just because you have more crap on paper than we do.
Some companies prefer BTECs to Alevels because they are more practical and specialised rather than sitting in a classroom the entire time and doing an exam in the end. Depends what you are wanting to learn of course.

I did a BTEC in animal management which is definately a practical course and I don't think I would of had half of the experience I have now if I hadn't done that course!

Also I am rubbish at exams so I probably would have failed Alevels so doing that course was a different route into university.

I bet you've never done one yourself though have you? Your just a hypocritical bigot. My level 3 course takes up most of my spare time, that's how time-consuming it can be.
Why did I do a BTEC? Because despite getting straight A's in my GCSE's one month later I remembered absolutely nothing. I want to be in production, so why am I going to study four A-levels that are sort-of-kind-of related to production when I can just go to college and study production? If I didn't do a BTEC I wouldn't have had a chance to try out my chosen career before university, so I know that I'm not wasting £9,000 a year on a subject I'll hate. With my BTEC I had a good enough portfolio, experience and UCAS points to get into one of the top drama schools in the country, whereas my friend who did A-Levels and who had more UCAS points then me got declined due to lack of experience.

And don't try to say that BTEC students don't work hard. In the last two years, I didn't have a half-term or holiday, I was in school working everyday and my school day ran from 8-8.

Oh and also, I had two of the best years of my life.

And I'm not a snob.

Anyone dissing BTECs is delusional.

A levels are nothing. The reason is that between GCSEs and sixth form many people drop out. Between sixth form and uni very few drop out. That means if you have a levels you have nothing. Anyone with a uni degree is better qualified. anyone with BTECs that are relevant to their chosen career is better qualified, because they are more practical.

for some people academia is not the way to go and BTECs provide a nice opportunity to get into the workforce. I find it pathetic that people look down on them - when the thing is that there are so many useless graduates out there that are flooding the market that the joke is on them.

haters gonna hate. ur probably doing a dead end degree with no job prospects.

I do actually, there are CD's in that folder as well with my practical work on there just all my assignments. Its not crap as they are all relevant to the subject. Like I said before, you can't copy off the internet as its plagiarism its mostly all primary research but depends on the subject. Also the pile would be bigger if I had my first year work with me.

There is a BTEC science courses too
Do people who do BTECs also do work placements? I know that those of us who did NVQs do.

Okay
I did a BTEC and I'm now earning £18,000 at 18 years old.
I'm doing a Level 3 BTEC in Dolphin Management. It's worth more than all your silly A Levels.

Excuse me but BTEC students do much more work than A-level students, BTEC requires 3 or 4 whole days with numerous assignments. also you learn a lot more skills rather than just sitting in a class room copying notes.

You need the same GCSE grades you would do to get into A-level, most A-level students on my course don't what they doing. You may got good grades but in the real world BTEC has more employability benefits and your portfolio will be much larger.

hahahahaahahahhahahhahaha you are stupid

Was your BTEC relevant to what you're doing?
Who said people who do BTECs are stupid? Plumbing BTECs are great and they will always be needed by us. Not everyone will want a history degree.
How dare someone post about commoner's affairs when the TSR community needs to debate between cucumber and prawn sandwiches; onto round 3 Cross examination!!
