I infact began a BTEC at my local college in IT, level 3 ofcourse. I stuck at the course for 8 months before deciding to just quit for a full time apprenticeship! Now work at my local council as a full time IT Apprentice.

However, a normal BTEC day at college would consist of starting the day at something silly like 11AM, doing 15 minutes work, then going out for a smoke.. to come back in and hit the flash games on the web for the rest of the day haha.

The sad thing was, i managed to pump 15 minutes of solid work a day out, and still be on for full distinctions at the end of my year, My opinion... No work all play

well I've decided to be more ignorant by proving the hard work BTEC students do, this it my folder from 2nd year of my BTEC.

ah...

Quantity=/=quality.
I really don't like the attitudes people have towards BTECs. Just because somebody cannot get the grades they need for A Levels does not make them 'thick' or 'scum'. Some people just cannot handle the pressure of exams or may not receive the support they need to do well and find coursework based work a better option for them. I have a friend who does not understand subjects like maths or english, but put a piece of paper in front of her and she produces amazing works of art.

Btecs and a-levels often require the same entry grades

In the college I wish to attend, I need 5bs to do a levels but if I wanted to do a btec I need a c in maths and English and a b in graphics or art (predicted an a/a* in graphics) so I could do it easily, but people who are really good at only one or two subjects (graphics for me) might think that a levels will be a lot of pressure and won't be able to get that many grades.

I wish there was subjects like btecs you could only do one, but at an a level standard.

I love how BTEC students think that they are the only ones who are 'continually assessed'. I am always being set assignments/homework and have to complete assessed practicals and a coursework style writeup for some of my science A levels. It's not like we do nothing throughout the year and just turn up to an exam.

I respect that for the minority of students who know what subject they want to specialise in straight after GCSE, BTECs are superior. However, there is no substance to the argument that BTECs are intellectually 'harder' than A levels. They may require a similar level of hard work (or perhaps more) but you don't have to cope with the stress of the exam period and with some of the complicated concepts you find in subjects like Physics and Chemistry. I mean, find me concept in a BTEC course that is as hard to understand than M4 maths or complex organic chemistry?

/devil's advocate :colone:

BTECs are for stupid incompetent *****. A-Levels are for people serious about getting a good job, BTEC students are not.

Oh really? I did a BTEC, and I'm now studying law at university. My first year result was better than roughly 70% of the other people on my course

From my experience doing both; yes, as you said you needed a B for the related subject.

This thread is kind of pointless in all honesty, but i would say btec students have a very strong advantage in the first year of uni.

Edit: Btecs also give the same ammount of ucas points as a levels, traditionally 18-19 modules; its essentially the same work load thus creditted the same, uni's dont look down upon btecs at all, thats just a myth created by oxbridge snobs

In Leeds there's a college called Leeds City College of Technology, and I just fail to understand why people go there to do most of the courses... I'm not being a stuck up ****, but can things like an Advanced Level 2 Diploma in Database Management actually get you very far, apart from working in an office doing simple admin/clerical duties... which they probably provide training for anyway...

Anyone care to enlighten me on this?

BTEC can get you into Unis.

End.
Anyway, i did a BTEC...and it is infinitely more easier and laid back than A Levels.

However, there is an end goal to it...and can get you into a Uni etc...

Just the government sending idiots to school without actually educating them. Probably just so dumb people think they're doing something of value. Poor inferior beings.
People have this stupid view that BTEC is easy, it isn't easy at all. If anything you more educated in one chosen subjects area and you are hands on as well as written assignments.

I did a A-level in Film, no real hands on experience. Dropped out did a BTEC in Film Production, totally hands on and the theory was too much but unlike A-level I leave some to the end of the year so I'm not doing loads of things at once.

You don't get to know anyone at A-level, they were all up their own arses and thought they were something special when they're but with BTEC I found more relaxed approach and set up in the same structure as University so if anything BTEC already are already prepared. Our uni lecturer said BTEC students may know a bit more than A-levels regards to practical skills but A-level can easily be at the same level.
Just for the thick cu*nts who dont understand BTEC its set out for students who have an idea of what they want to be or wanna do when their older
It goes over two years with normally 18 units specifically on e.g. BUSINESS STUDIES WHICH AM DOING....
HUMAN RESOURCES
ACCOUNTS
LAW
CONTRACT LAW
EVENTS MANAGEMENT
RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION
MANAGEMENT
RETAIL
BUSINESS ETHICS
MARKETING
INTERNET MARKETING
WEBSITE DESIGN STRATEGY
BUSINESS COMMUNICATIONS
SUPPLY CHAIN
AND MORE I STILL HAVE TO DO...

NOW TO SPECIFICALLY ANSWER YOUR QUESTION... students do btec because it covers everything in the area their interested in and it sets you ready for employment or university and its not easy to do either as you are set deadlines you have to meet.
Yes btec is accepted at every university uncluding OXBRIDGE.

50 percent of ****ers that do A levels dont know what they want to be in life their just testing the waters and 50 percent of them fail and drop out..... have a reality check then you see them doing BTEC because they know specifically what they want to do and want to focus onit..
