What does an orthopaedic health care assistant do?

Hello. Could any one give me an idea of what its like to be an HCA in an orthopaedic trauma ward please? What kind of things are you expected to do?

Lots of manual handling, lots of washes and toileting of patients basically. Think of the injuries patient will have on this sort of ward, a lot will be restricted with their mobility if not completely bedbound. Lots of little old ladies with #NOF.

Do you have experience as an orthopadics HCA moonkatt? What exactly does washing and toileting involve?

I'm an adult nurse, never worked in T&O but know what it's like. Washing could mean giving someone a hand to do their back and their bits while they're sat out or it could involve a full bedbath. With toileting the same really, could be helping someone onto a commode and wiping their bum after or it could be rolling someone onto a bedpan, changing an incontinence pad, cleaning a bed someone's been incontinent in.

Along with this you might have to help people with their eating possibly feeding them more dependent patients, helping people have drinks, assisting nurses with other clinical tasks and so on.
