I want to do Investment banking but applied for an Enginnering degree!!!

Such as....? I find it funny when people want to work in "investment banking" without the faintest idea about what role they want or work in, or what even the hell the job involves.

I would like to either work as an investment analyst or financial trader. I haven't properly decided yet.

But back to my question will a degree in engineering mathematics help me get a job in banking if I get a 2:1.

Also should I change course because I don't know if a degree in engineering mathematics form Bristol will be respected by most banking firms.

In all honesty mate, I don't know why you should be worrying. Your degree choice is fine, you already have an offer from Bristol which is a pretty sound uni to go to.

Just make sure you know your stuff and see whether it's really for you. Have a look around the forums and the guide to investment banking on here. Get a feel for what it is, cos it's no good saying you want to go into something you know nothing about.

But from a bank's point of view, as has been mentioned, Warwick and Imperial are your best bets; it's just the way banks are, your uni seems to matter more.

As for engineering, it's a respected mathematical degree, so I don't see why you couldn't make it as a trader or investment banker as long as you did your research.

Can you answer convincingly why you chose Mech Eng over, say, Finance?

Also I am also apply to Ireland to Trinity college Dublin, would a maths related degree from trinity increase my chances?

Forget the Engineering ranking. Imperial and Warwick are IB targets, Bristol and Bath to a far lesser extent.

Hey, I got an offer for aeronautical engineering at Bristol. I was wondering how many hours of lectures you have? Do you enjoy your course? Do you have any spare time? Is it hard getting an internship for investment banking with an aeronautical engineering degree?

TO BE HONEST, AN ENGINEERING DEGREE WILL HOLD YOU IN BETTER STEAD FOR CERTAIN IBs

An Engineering degree will be no hinderance to you, in fact it will be a blessing! When i was working at an IB in the City, the majority of people there had either; Engineering/Chemistry/Economics/Accounting/Mathematics/Finance degree's. I was working at an IB that specialised in Ethical Mining, and therefore there were a lot of Engineering/Chemistry grads.

WHAT YOU ARE DOING IS FINE - HOPE YOU ENJOY IT!

you can chose either of them , the most important factor is to be a very good mathematician , after you get your degree , the company that is interested in you will send you to take a few courses and that's the first step to become an investment banker. but the thing is bankers are like a small private community that everyone of them are from Oxford or Cambridge and that's what really matter . you either have to be an OXbridge degree holder or to have a connection otherwise .
any way , if I were you I would go to imperial collage .

Well I have ucas finished just need to put a firm and an insurance.
Bath - aerospace engineering meng A*AA
Bristol - aerospace engineering meng A*AA
Warwick - general engineering meng AAA
Queens - aerospace engineering meng AAB

So I have to pick from the universities listed above. I was wondering if you guys could give me some advice on where to go. I have only been to visit queens and bristol. I am looking for the best university in terms of job prospects in investment banking.
