Israel kills Hamas gunman, Gaza salvo hits Israeli city

GAZA (Reuters) - Israel killed a Hamas gunman it accused of preparing to fire a rocket from the Gaza Strip on Sunday and a separate Palestinian salvo struck a southern Israeli city, causing no damage.

The incidents followed a three-day lull since an upsurge in violence last week in which Israel killed at least four Gaza militants as dozens of rockets were fired at Israeli towns, damaging some homes and wounding several agricultural workers.

An Israeli air strike before dawn on Sunday struck two gunmen from the Palestinian enclave's governing Hamas movement as they rode a motorcycle near the central town of Khan Younis, local officials said. One man was killed and the other wounded.

An Israeli military spokesman said the air force had targeted a squad preparing to fire a rocket into Israel.

Hamas said its gunmen had fired mortar rounds at Israeli ground forces who had penetrated the coastal territory nearby. The military said those soldiers, who were unhurt, had been carrying out "routine work along the boundary fence".

Separately, two Palestinian rockets fired from Gaza struck Beersheba, a city 40 km (25 miles) away, causing no damage, the military spokesman said. Beersheba sounded air raid sirens and shuttered its schools as a precaution against further attacks.

The Popular Resistance Committees (PRC), one of several smaller Palestinian factions in Gaza that often operate independently of Hamas, said it had launched one of the Beersheba rockets. There was no immediate claim for the second.

Though Islamist Hamas is hostile to the Jewish state, it has recently sought to avoid cross-border confrontations as it tries to shore up its rule of Gaza in the face of more radical challengers and to build relations with potential allies abroad.

Israel's policy is to hold Hamas responsible for any attack emanating from Gaza.

'Israel's policy is to hold Hamas responsible for any attack emanating from Gaza.' Belarus does not support Israel's policy. Belarus understands that the conflict between Israel and Hamas is one of a long and violent history but believes that the momentary peace before this attack showed real signs of improvement in relations. Belarus hopes that the two sides will some day reach diplomatic and long-lasting agreements, though Belarus doubts it.
Sudan has always believed Israel to be a rogue state, and Mossad a terrorist organization. We feel that the only way to keep the Zionist state at bay would be to impose tough UN sanctions against them, the purpose clearly manifesting. We are sad of the US role in Israel and take this as yet another opportunity to warn any future US administration not to take part in any of the Zionists' war as well as to safeguard their national interest for the good of the majority of its citizens. Sudan has always recognise the Palestinian legitimate right to statehood, and will always stand by Hamas against any Israeli threat.
The Swiss Confederation calls for the Israeli government and HAMAS to peacefully solve the Gaza strip dispute. Violence is not the answer we call for diplomacy.

The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan calls for the Israeli government to act in the interests of creating stability in both Gaza and Israel we also call for diplomacy instead of this reactionary and barbaric stance from the Israeli government.

Malaysia urges Israel to resolve the religious conflict on the Gaza strip, to prevent the killing of many others through sectarian hostility.
Israel concurs with the remarks of the Malaysian representative, and condemns Israel's latest use of needless violence.

OOC: Sorry, I negged you instead of pressing the 'quote' button. :colondollar: Remind me to rep you when the time comes!

In character: Israel does not understand what is 'needless' about the killing of an enemy combatant. We were responding to an attack on our territory. A response is justified.

Israel does not understand what is 'barbaric' about responding to an attack on our territory. Any sane nation would do exactly the same.

We will not be lectured to by a genocidal state that sponsors terrorism and lends support to terrorists. We have the right to defend our territory against terrorist organisations.

We wish to remind Belarus that Hamas is in control of the Gaza Strip and has the responsibility to prevent rocket attacks taking place.
The Hellenic Republic (Greece) echoes the sentiments of the Swiss representative.

No worries! Just rep me up if you like when PRSOM expires.
And we, the leaders of Sudan, will always defend the oppressed even if it requires force and death. The zionist state that you represent is the biggest threat to world peace and you'll have proven yet again that Israel, the dictator of America, will never listen to anyone on earth.
What has Hamas done except kill a few soldiers? On the other hand what has Israel, the state that was created through terrorism of the most grotesque kind via groups like Irgun, Haganah and
the Stern Gang, which bombed and
terrorised Israel into being, done onto the Palestine people? For example in 2007 for every Israel killed there were 25 Palestinians killed! And they were mostly women and children.
The bloody birth of Israel was through terrorism, you should accept that.

My question to you is what other option do the Palestinians have after 60 years of oppression and bloodshed?
The representative for Sudan, an international pariah and genocidal state, has managed to combine anti-Semitic conspiracy theories about Jewish world control and excuses for blowing up innocent people in the same statement. That's more than most Palestinians manage in a lifetime, because the truth is that we hope the Palestinian people can have their own state and that it will be successful, whereas people like the Sudanese representative are only interested in promulgating conspiracy theories and slanders.
We would certainly like to remind every Israeli citizen, if they are not still informed, that the military of Israel has killed thousands more innocent Palestinians, with the blessing of America.
We are sad that Israel is a law onto itself. We are sad that any criticism of the Zionist state is termed "anti semitic". We are sad that the western media has covered up Israel so much that the truth is termed a "conspiracy theory".

Prove the "truth" you are referring to. If indeed you are sincere and honest.

I have a right to criticise Israel with the best of the knowledge I have about it. At least my words are justified, unlike the many disgusting zionist statements made by the fathers of Israel!
