I went to the open day the Sunday before last. I'll give you my impression of Herts (Sport and Exercise Science applicant who isn't into the clubbing scene). Hertfordshire is my top choice, by the way.
- de Hav and College Lane are close to each other but they still have a bus service that runs every 5-10 minutes between them. It's a 3 minute trip, very convenient.
- The Forum is the go-to place for socialising if you're not going out of town. It's located on the College Lane campus. There are also a lot of cafes and student lounges with wifi.
- It's easy to get to London like you said. I'll be meeting up with a friend at UCL every so often while I'm there.
- Each campus has its own large Learning Resources Centre, both of which are open 24/7 (literally). I love the idea of being able to study in a quiet building at 3am. Weird, I know.
- The Sports Village is pretty good. The gym is mostly cardio equipment with resistance machines near the front and a small free weights section at the back. They've got a couple squash courts, lots of badminton courts, basketball courts, a swimming pool, club rooms for several other sports... can't say I managed to see them all but I'll definitely be looking into them.
- Between the campuses is
The Galleria, a large mall with everything from Subway to Sports Direct to Waterstones to Odeon.
- Food shopping won't be a problem with ASDA and ALDI and Tesco and other supermarkets in close proximity.
The de Hav accommodation and most of College Lane is really nice, but I'm leaning towards
private accommodation straight away. I won't be able to bring my digital piano or drawing desk otherwise D:
Personally, it's my ideal environment. A quiet town, close to London, convenient coach service home and very nice sports facilities.
