Biochemistry or History?

Hi there,

I have been battling with myself for months about which one to do, I love science and I love history and I am just split for a decision I know I want to go into medicine after my first degree, but I don't mind applying for the 5 year course because I know that GEM is a lot more competitive and a lot more work in that one year. So even if I did biochemistry I am not sure if I would apply for GEM.
Also, is it true that for GEM applications, it is becoming a bit of a disadvantage to be a biomedical/biochemistry applicant because it is the usual subject for most GEM applicants? I sure hope not, but I have seen a few people mention that and saying it is just a route for failed medical applicants
