UCA Fashion Promotion and Imaging Portfolio (help please!)

I have an interview for UCA Fashion Promotion and Imaging and I'm a little confused about what I have to put in my portfolio. The site says 'Thorough and analytical visual research in the form of sketchbooks, an experimental sketchbook, and pathway sketchbook, perhaps with the beginnings of a conceptual idea', however I am very confused by this!

1. Does this mean recreate the journey of planning a photo story (i.e, initial ideas, influential photographers, developing ideas?)
2. Do they wish us to create two separate sketchbooks?
3. What do they mean by 'experimental' and 'pathway' sketchbook?

I don't suppose anyone can help me out with this, I'd be so very grateful if anyone could get back to me about any thoughts/experience they have had! I would love to know what other people took to their UCA Fashion Promotion and Imaging interviews.
