Loughborough university and Oxford Brookes are both meant to have decent courses. I've applied for CSM and those two so far

Yeah sure, just finishing it off, I'll post it later. Thanks, forgot to mention I'm only applying in London though (: UAL's good, but you can only apply to one, apart from that and kingston, theres a lack of free ones, i think Ravensbourne's okay, but its only really digital art and photography.

Hello ! I live in France and I'm going to apply to CSM, Kingston and Ravensbourne. I've been to both Kingston and CSM's open day. I prefer Kingston but I think CSM have better reputation and good for international studies later.
Have you already sent your application form ? Do you have trouble with personal statement ?
I'd like to know a little more about English students, and how hard is it for them too

Hey! I'm from Spain and I'm to CSM and Kingston too, although I haven't sent anything yet. Have you? I'm also having trouble with my statement, and with the CSM portfolio as they don't ask for anything specific, have you done it yet? How is Kingston? I've seen CSM but not Kingston, is it nice?

Hi!
I'm going to send my application form, with reference and personal statement at CSM this week I think, and maybe Kingston and Ravensbourne at the end of December.
Maybe I can help you with the statement, what's your trouble?
If you've been to CSM open days, they might have told you to send them a CD with your work into. You have to do a Power Point, with your pictures organize in project (research, drawing, sketchbook, final project...). I don't know I think they're not looking for something special (Kingston it's easier, I like how they want us to organize the Flickr account) they just want to see what you can do, how you work. I have my works but I haven't made the Power Point yet.
Kingston is really nice, as it's in the suburbs, it's charming, calm. There is a little river near the university, there are nice houses. The town center is busy with lots of shops (the same as in London), there are bars, cinemas, ... I think it's lively because there are lots of students there !

Hello!

I'm a potential international student to CSM. I'm currently finishing off a foundation year at SCAD in Georgia, USA. The foundation year was NOT sufficient in preparing me to apply to any kind of UK university to study art so I'm doing ANOTHER foundation year (hopefully) at CSM. I'm in the midst of preparing my portfolio now... Wondering if there are any other non UK-EU applicants out there? Anyone have any special info or advice for international students? And when are you applying? Just wondering ;D

I've been ALL over the internet for almost a year now looking up portfolios and videos and advice on preparing for CSM or Kingston. Fully obsessed with getting in... Anyone else in my shoes?

Best of luck to all of you ;D

Kathryn
Haha I'm pretty obsessed too :colondollar: I'm going to send my application form for CSM today, maybe this week end for Kingston !
I don't for Ravensbourne, but I have much more time !

Hey everyone,

I'm currently studying at CSM and remember how stressful applying was! Any questions about the application process, your portfolio or the foundation in general feel free to ask.

Good luck with your applications!

Hi, just in the process of putting together my portfolio, what sort or work do they really like to see, and roughly how many sheets? Thanks (:
I've just sent my application form today, maybe an hour ago !!! So stressful !!!
Is it long after they receive your application to send you a portfolio request ?
And do we need to make an original power point, or just basic stuff ? (I have to send my portfolio in a CD)

Thank you

Well from my own experience and my friends' (all three of us got in with a similar presentation of work in our portfolio) I think they really like to see a range of experimentation with different mediums leading to your final outcomes, which should be at high quality. Any 3D work photographed well in good lighting. Consistent flow of ideas as you examine a theme or style. Personally, my whole portfolio was broken into sections from AS and A2 Art and Photography and clearly showed how I arrived at a final outcome. Put in any first hand research like photographs as well. I also varied the size of my work, maybe having a lot of work on one page and then a massive print on the next.
Remember everything must be on A2 paper, make sure you present your work neatly and have stuck everything down well and straight. It shows you're proud of your work and conscientious. Any labels should be unobtrusive and best to print them if you can. I think I put around 20 - 30 pages of work in + sketchbooks.

Last year they marked our portfolio out of 5 objectives, each marked out of 5:
Visualisation skills
Research and investigative skills
Creative thinking and problem solving ability
Use of a range of materials and processes
Evidence of interest in art, design or related subjects (including potential to achieve the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design)

You had to get at least 18/25 to get an offer.

To keep it simple:
Show off the work that you think best represents you and your style and interests.
Keep your work well presented so they can clearly see your thought processes and work.
Use as wide a range of materials as possible.
Not all your work has to be to a very high standard, in a sense, if you think its relevant as an experimentation leading to a high quality final piece.

Be proud of your work and I'm sure your enthusiasm and skill will shine through.

I honestly can't remember, I don't think it was more than a month though - the long wait is after your portfolio review!
I wouldn't be the best person to ask because I dropped my work off in person, I would email or phone CSM - I'd probably suggest just creating a PDF with your work displayed like you would in a 3D portfolio. They probably wouldn't bother having to set up a PP as they have so many people to look through in such a short time.

Good luck to both of you!
Thank you very much, yes you're right maybe a PDF would be better to be sure they will have time for me !
You say a wide range of materials, what's it for you?
Hi, I'm Ellie and I study photography at UCA.

I just wanted to let you guys know that the University for the Creative Arts also offer foundation courses. UCA is a specialised arts uni spread across 5 campuses based around south-east England, all with good, easy travel links to London. You can choose to learn from graphic design, fashion and textiles, fine art, film, animation, photography and 3D design so you really get an idea of what you want to commit to doing a degree in if you aren't too sure yet.
There are foundation courses offered at each campus, which is useful if you want to study from home and live close to a campus.

We also have an internal progression scheme which guarantees your place on a degree course at UCA, as long as you get the support of your Tutor and Course Leader and pass your foundation course.

A lot of my friends did foundation courses at UCA and really enjoyed them; they loved the access they had to all the equipment and facilities across the uni, which, there are a lot of! Its really worth looking at. You can apply via the website NOT on UCAS and there are more open days across all our campuses in January.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask! I am a student who's been at UCA for 2 years so you can literally ask me anything from studying to student life.

Thanks! E.
St Martins, Kingston, Ravensbourne .... Future foundation students wake up !!!!!!!!

Thank you everyone for all the useful information!! It would be great if anyone would like to share their portfolio they used to get in or the current one they are going to use to apply to any Uni. I'm freaking out and applying to a ton of universities cause I'm scared I wont get in any. Everyone says I'm being over the top or whatever. Imagine if we all got into the ones we wanted! Wouldn't that be great!

AND HOW THE HELL DO YOU WRITE AN ARTIST STATEMENT OF ONLY 200/300 WORDS FOR CSM/KINGSTON?¿?¿¿? Sorry. Freaking out. Ok, much love, bye.

Now I have just the impression that I didn't say enough things about me, that they won't be able to know me, ... So stressful !!!!!!!!!!
I think I won't sleep until the end of January haha
