Hey

I was just reading through your messages and I was just wondering how long it was between the dates of your interviews and finding out whether you'd been accepted or not? I had my interview 11th January & I haven't heard anything as yet! I've applied for the Upper KS1 and Lower KS2 course.

Congratulations to you all on being accepted

Hello

It took just over a month until I heard back, I had my interview on the 9th November and it wasnt until a week or so into December that I found out. I'm on the KS1 and Lower KS2 course as well. Good luck! Let us know how you do!

Heyyyy, good luck on getting a place! I heard a little sooner than Katie, I think I heard three weeks exactly after my interview, but I'm specialising in Early Years to KS1, so that could have had something to do with it.

Thanks for your replies!

I got offered a place yesterday! Couldn't believe I got the offer a day after I posted on here! But very excited to start the course and meet you all! Still need to do the QTS skills test though which I'm a bit scared about! Have you both done them? I've looked at some of the practice ones, but a little bit nervous about doing them!

Well done on getting your places!

Well done! Thats fab news! I've done my literacy one, but not the maths one yet, thats the one i'm dreading! Yehh the practices are so boring too! Are you local to UEA?

I have an interview in march, just wondering if you had any pointers or experiences of them that would help. For the written task how long are you given to complete the task?? are any key topics brought up in the interview ?

thanks in advance

Hey everyone,

I had my interview in January, and the interview process really isn't too bad  You arrive there and they give you an introductory talk which lasts about 45 minutes to an hour, if my mind serves me correctly!

You all then get individual timetables given to you, with the times that you are doing things. I had a break first, then my interview (about 30 mins), then another break, then a group discussion on my chosen book (20-30 mins for the whole thing (about 3-5 minutes per presentation of book)), then another break. It's during the breaks that you do your written tasks.

For the interview, I would advise you to have fresh in your mind, why you want to be a teacher and examples from the classroom. You're interviewed by two people (one lecturer and one head teacher). The lecturer asked me about reasons why I'd like to be a teacher etc, about my experiences, whereas the headteacher gave me more specific questions like, explain what a good discipline policy might be, or give me an example of a time you had to react without thinking in the school environment and on reflection, would you have done anything differently? Make sure you have a couple of questions ready for them at the end of the interview. I asked "what was the most challenging part of becoming a teacher" and "what is your fondest memory of teaching?" We spent quite a lot of time engaging in general chit chat about these questions, which was quite nice.

The group discussion of books is totally fine. You discuss the book individually in the group (in front of the interviewers you have) - theres about 4-5 people per discussion group. You then have a group discussion of all of the books, so it's a good idea to listen to other people's books and think of questions while they're talking!

The written task, (well, the one I had) wasn't too bad. You have all day to do it. You all get the same written task, and are allowed to discuss it (well the people I was with discussed it). We were given 8 newspaper articles, published 2011-2012. The first question we had to write down in 100 words, the general theme of the articles (mine was on boys having lower academic abilities than girls) and you can summarise these in bullet points. The next question involved writing a critical response, bringing in our own knowledge and thoughts on if we agreed with the articles, citing the articles in the text, and presenting a bit of an argument. This will become clearer once you read the articles though. Thats only about 600 words if I remember correctly.

It really isn't a bad day and I actually really enjoyed it while I was there, have a little mingle with everyone there - you're all in the same boat. I would advise you to take lunch though! As a couple of girls I was with didn't and they were starving by the end of the day! There is a vending machine though doesn't work sometimes.

I hope this helps

GOOD LUCK!!x

You're more than welcome! I'm glad it helped a little bit!

They tell you in the introductory talk that if you haven't got a place that you tend to hear from them within two weeks but that if you have got a place then it'll take a little bit longer to hear back as they have to process all your details. I think I heard from them in just under a month after my interview (felt like the longest month ever!!).

Wishing you the best of luck!

If you have any more questions do let us know! But lots of luck for the interview, let us know how you get on! X

Ya I feel it went quite well got good reactions in my interview but you can just never tell exactly what there looking for. A little bit of it is luck I'm just hoping I'm in luck this time because I really think I'm ready . How about you? How did you find the process ? X

I think it was ok as well, I hate getting hopes up so I never like to say something went really well lol. The ladies who interviewed me were so lovely, they just sat and drank tea whilst we chatted and actually had a laugh, the head teacher who talked to me was all for child initiated learning so thankfully stuff I said was well received by her and the tutor who interviewed me was the lady who does the SEN module I want to do so she seemed to understand the area I came from. The presentation went ok (I can't remember if you were in my group for that?) but the other people had books as well as little props so im unsure if that will go against me as I had just the book with me. Written task was fine. I loved how relaxed it was, my SCITT interview was hell so it was nice that this was calm and relaxed, the fact we had that room to go back too was great meant you got that breather!! Who interviewed you? I really hope we find out Friday, I spoke to a lady who said they told her 3 weeks and she heard dead on the 3 week mark so i'm so hoping we do, going out of my mind already! lol xx
