heya im slightly confused about what the hell the EU actually does in english, let alone putting it into german

Check Wikipedia for this. It is very good IMO.
Europäische Kommission: basically the government of the EU. executive organ. proposes legislation, guardian of treaties. consists of 25 commissioners (one from eacher member state)
Europäisches Parlament: legislative body of the EU. Approves laws
Gerichtshof: part of the judiciary. interprets laws of the EU when it comes to clashes about individual norms
Rechnungshof: also part of the judiciary. supervises collection and spending of EU institutions. control
I had my French oral today on the European Constitution, the referendum and the Euro. Twas COOLE!
