Is porn misogynistic?

Perhaps more women would watch porn if it didn't have the negative rep it gets from the idea that it does reinforce those dynamics? And the way to combat that, I would think, is to make the porn that doesn't just show women having various parts ****ed, but shows them being treated like actual human beings capable of sexual likes and dislikes and desires more widely available. As has been mentioned, it does exist. Just, where?

Lots of studies have indicated that very significant amounts (well over half) of women watch porn. If you want I'll find some for you but I don't think I need too. Like I said that kind of porn is aimed more at men but I have to fundamentally reject the idea that it has any significant effect on the male psyche. You need to cite studies and evidence to back up a claim like that, because you're implying that porn turns all men into sexists who only see women as objects which simply isn't true.

Pornography isn't at all misogynistic. For every female sex slave video you have an equivalent male sex slave video knocking about.

This.

It depends entirely on what kind of porn you're watching.

I don't believe that porn turns men into sexists who objectify other women. I don't think, in most cases, it has a detrimental affect on the way men behave (I won't claim that it can't, but that such cases may be rare if they do occur and I can't say I know enough about it to say either way for definite; what I will say is that by the age I would expect people to be accessing porn, most of their behaviour and attitudes will have already been shaped)

What I do think is that the vast majority of (het) porn I've come across from looking tends to have a strong dominant man/submissive woman dynamic (even when the content of the video is not necessarily BDSM based) and I'd just like to see more things available that don't, as well as seeing more porn that is not just aimed at straight men. As you said, over 50% of women watch porn, so there is a market there. It's more about changing the idea of the image of porn - if more of this was available, then perhaps women might not feel bad about admitting to accessing it because the stereotype of porn is that it's degrading and sexist, and while some of it is, I'd like to hope that a lot of it isn't. I don't know how much you watch porn if at all, but I can tell you that there is plenty of no degrading porn, at least enough that you could watch a different video of it every time you wanted to do the business. There is plenty of porn of different genres, you could say the same about female dominated porn "it degrades men" etc. In the end I think as long as people aren't total morons there won't be a problem. And as for the people who are, they're going to end up being intolerant or stupid one way or another regardless of the type of porn they watch.
