the earth is referred to as the blue planet does this have a connection with clouds being blue.

It will be to do with seas as 71% of the earth is blue with only 1% drinkable, also the colour of water has to do with Rayleigh Scattering (which is why the sky looks blue and we see the Sea as blue) and the sea acts as a reflector of the sky.
Mie Scattering shows clouds as white/grey
