Much more important for Oxford - Cambridge get to see the percentages you get in each paper, whereas Oxford don't.
If you get AAAA with an average of 80%, you probably wouldn't even be interviewed by Cambridge, but to Oxford you'd look just as good as someone with AAAA and 100%, and so they use more entrance tests and GCSE weighting.
