York and Exeter Nightlife

I'm applying for psychology at York, Exeter, Surrey and Newcastle and wouldn't mind a bit of nightlife. I know that this shouldn't be what I decide between York or Exeter (my top 2) as which has the best nightlife, but I was wondering what the nightlife was like at these unis- I know Newcastle has decent nightlife?

I'm at York. Obviously, it's not the same as Manchester or Newcastle. Are there some clubs? Yes. I'd say they were on par with ones you'd find elsewhere. There are loads of pubs, nice restaurants and some interesting cocktail bars (*cough* evil eye *cough*).

You also have to remember that if York can't satisfy, you can pop over to Leeds.

I have spent a few nights out in York, visiting a friend, and loved it! I'm easily pleased as my home town is tiny and rubbish for nightlife. I LOVE Evil Eye and get very wasted there. It's interesting trying to find your way around the lanes after a sesh in there! And as Accalia said, Leeds isn't too far away, and neither is Hull!
Can't speak for Exeter as I've never been, but from what I've seen in Facebook photos, it looks pretty good!
I'm at Exeter.

There are a mix of clubs ... but having only visited 2 I can't speak for them all! You soon pick up on which ones to go to on what night :P (Cheesy Tuesdays at Arena for example)

There is a SU club on the streatham campus, the Lemmy, which does themed nights which seem quite popular with most students - cheap and cheerful!

There are many pubs that students frequent, as well as the biggest Wetherspoons you have ever seen  I got horribly lost one night, was like a maze!

There are good foody places about, SU bar (different to the Lemmy) and bars that have a good atmosphere ... one bar has a giant Jenga which is oh so fun :P

Now, as a Somerset lass I didn't grow up with much nightlife ... unless the Harvest Festival in a field counts :P But I think its pretty good. But, I have nothing to compare it too and certainly could not compare it to York!

*Sensible adult hat* - I really wouldn't make a decision based on the nightlife though. The majority of Uni's will have a decent nightlife as its what a number of students want.

There will be differences in your course, even if they are all called the same. No idea about psychology specifically, but every Uni will have different academics with different specialisms and this is reflected in the modules available. I would look at the modules available at all levels (1, 2 and 3) and make an informed decision based on that. Its all very well picking the best night life, but that is useless if the whole degree is made up of an area of psychology you don't want to study.

I'd go for Newcastle University to be honest, it has great nightlife and a top-notch reputation too (if you don't mind a few Harrovians
). I'd deciding between Newcastle and Edinburgh myself.
