AQA AS Biology 9th January

Does anyone know how you answer the question 'explain why scientists use a control group' because you never get the marks for saying 'compare'

Compare on its own would not be enough, but you will not get marked down for it.

I believe they may be asking for a reference to the independent variable, and insuring that any observed result is due to this independent variable.

Hope this helps.

note - this isnt a compare question, never say compare
the aqa definition that would get you the full marks on a control group question like this is this:
for M1 - always say they should be treated exactly the same way
for M2 - but be given a placebo

these 2 are the only things you say when a control group question comes up

hope i helped
To ensure the [result of the drug] is due to the [drug] and not due to another factor.
