Insurance offers

Does the University that you put as an insurance know that they're an insurance?
If so is it harder to secure a place?
Yes the do know.

But as far as I'm aware (I'm 99% sure), if you miss your firm grades but make the insurance grades, they have to take you.

Only after you get all your offers/rejections you choose your firm and insurance, so no.

Unis might not let you sort out accommodation though if you have selected them as an insurance.

yes they do. if you meet the grades then they have to take you. however should you miss the grades then you may be less of a priority for a place- a lot of unis give priority to firm candidates who missed out on their offer
