Going bald at a young age-advice???

Hi everyone

Im 23 and losing my hair. My head is very itchy/dandruffy and every time I look at my jumper I have a few hairs on it. Also, every time I run my hand through my hair, a few hairs come out.

I first noticed this when I was 19, but I didnt come to much. However, in the 2nd have of 2012, the hair loss has started again.

My hair is thinning out significantly at the front.

This is destroying my confidence and body image.

I worry that women wont find me attractive because of this

Can anyone give me any advise? Have any men here went bald at a young age?

I don't know why it should have any bearing on your "body image" but I imagine it can affect confidence, yes.

The ONLY sensible course of action here is a very short crop. A number 1.

You can think Phil Mitchell, if you like. But I'd point you in the direction of Freddie Ljungberg.

My friend's boyfriend is. But when he started to lose his hair they were already together so she wouldn't break up with him because of it.
I'm sure there will be a woman somewhere who can overlook this though

You just need to work with what you've got. If its starting to thin don't worry about it, if your forehead is getting too big or your getting a noticeable bald patch then just get a short crop. Trust me you'll be surprised how much they can suit people.

Just whatever you do, DON'T leave it so that your hair starts halfway up your scalp or you justs have tufts of hair on the sides of your head. It ages you horribly and just looks a mess. Short and neat is the way. Pair that with some confidence and your good to go!

The posters above have obviously done no research on hair loss.
I was losing hair at my temples and started using topical minoxidil, and it came back quite nicely. I have a big flat mole at my temple as well which I use as a point of reference. There used to be no hair over that region... Now there is! So you can't go telling me it's placebo effect. Btw minoxidil is the active ingredient in regaine (or rogaine), but that stuff is a rip-off. I get mine from kirkland-minoxidil. But the price has gone up 6x in the last 2 years from when I first bought it. :/ It is obviously gaining popularity...

Minoxodil apparently only lasts 5-8 years, but there are other stuff out there, theres Finasteride which is very effective at preventing further hair loss but unfortunately has many potential side effects. Hair loss is caused by di-hydrotestosterone (DHT) attacking the hair follicles and killing them. Finasteride works to reduce levels of DHT. There's lots of side effects though including sexual side effects and prescriptions cost about £90 for a month supply. It is not available on the NHS. The hair loss market is growing rapidly though and I bet you in a while to come, there will be much more effective remedies out there. They just discovered hair follicle cloning a while ago actually, but it has not been commercialised yet.

Anyway TSR is not the place to be for advice on hair loss. There are whole forums dedicated to this out there. Baldtruthtalk is the only one I can remember but there are more.

Good luck and don't listen to these people who say you can't fight nature. I look **** ugly without hair so I'm going to fight to keep it.

** How nice, I get negged for donating 10mins of my time to write several paragraphs of advice.

Hair thinning can be a result of high testosterone. I'd recommend that you shave your head - it is much better from a fashion perspective. Baldness is forced, shaving is a style choice.
my boyfriends 19 and his hair is significantly thinning too on top, if his dad is anything to go by he will be completely bald in a few years. it sucks but he tries not to let it get him down.
i think the only reason he covers it so well (ie you cant tell from afar) is having hair that is curly and long (like a mop type hair thing) :/ this can backfire because it puts more strain on the roots but if your hair is falling out at the rate your describing you may want to consider playing around and finding a way that conceals it a bit or asking the opinion of a barber or hairdresser.

sorry to hear its happening though, hope you can learn to cope and everything

the trouble is that I wouldnt suit a shaved head, I dont have the right facial features for it
Nizoral.

Look it up, works wonders and is definitely worth a shot, especially with your dandruff. Eat lots of veg and drink lots, lots and more lots of water too.

Hey there. Firstly, I know how you feel - self conscious? Worried? Anxious?

I lost my hair relatively young, and knowing it is happening is hard to take. I was worried about what people (women) would think. Let me tell you that generally, THEY DON'T CARE.

You are at the age where people generally are still quite immature, so any childish comments you get you will have to ignore for now. You have to rise above it all - be a man, not a boy. Attract women, not girls..!

If you decide to 'do the deed' and shave it off, I can pretty much guarantee that a, it won't look as bad as you expect, and b, you will have a huge weight lifted off your shoulders. Is a scary thing to do though as theres no going back..! At first you will look strange - this is natural.

Have a read of this: http://fitnessblackbook.com/funky-style-tips/going-bald-or-have-a-receding-hairline-you-need-to-buzz-it-off/

I'm 27 now and have been buzzing my head with clippers for over a year. Yes, I have a 'skinhead', and my mates occasionally take the piss - especially if they haven't seen me since I cut it all off, but I can still get the women, I'm probably more confident and I feel more self assured.

I'd advise against all the pills, potions and lotions. The majority of these have side effects such as impotence and loss of sex drive - do you think a woman will want you then???

Hey, not going anonymous. No I don't find it's harder - obviously younger women aren't that keen, but mid 20s and onwards there's no real issues. Some women will never like it, so if i get those vibes then I politely move on haha.

Stay fit and healthy, hit the gym, have some interesting hobbies and be an interesting person. The more you can talk about things, be funny, get on with loads of different people, the better.

Btw I'm not completely bald..!
