Ideas for a Short Story - URGENTLY NEED HELP

Hi all, I'm doing an English Language controlled assessment on Wednesday in which we have to make up a short story with an effective use of

- Plot
-Characters
-Setting

The story can be on Mystery/Ambition or Relationships and MUST have a plot twist

However, I am in no way creative and am horrible at this sort of thing.

So, any ideas for plot/characters and possibly setting would be much appreciated :smile:

PS: By 'short' story, it must be around 1000/1500 words, with a max of 3/4 NAMED characters and a limited amount of settings.
I would suggest you read some short stories - proper ones from james joyce or william trevor - look at how they give such effective descriptions in so little words. Also, all good short stories have an epiphany as opposed to a twist so I'd look at how you can structure that. For setting I'd set it somewhere that you can relate to, maybe your home town. And for characters can you base them on anybody you can also relate to?
