Should executive compensation be limited in the UK and the US or should it be that too performers should earn the top pay?

There should be no regulation on actual amounts, but there should be regulations on how these amounts are distributed. I disagree strongly with just dropping cash into someone's bank account, and feel there should be more use of things like long-term incentives [enshrined in law under strict conditions] and giving bonuses in the form of company shares. That way, any piss taking and bad decisions will hit the executives the most because they have shares which are worth more and therefore have more to lose.

People say that Sir Roger de Coverly at Bernstein-Schmidt and Wasteman Plc. is entitled to a golden parachute of 54 years pay when he bankrupts the company, because it's in his contract. Who the hell signs off on a contract as ridiculous as that? Part of our current economic situation comes about due to there being no real punishment for failure if you're rich and important enough, just slightly less success.

Of course, if you cap and interfere with bonuses then the fat cats will work around it by simply increasing basic pay.
