Question about CEng

Is it worth it getting CEng?

Also to get a CEng you do a MEng, then what?
Do u need work experience to become CEng, if u have MEng?

I don't think it would hurt to get it. It shows representation by the accrediting body and lets employers see that you're competent as an engineer. There are probably many other perks as well as scheduled meetings, talks and networking by the accreditor.

In order to get to CEng, there are two main routes for university students...

1) Do an accredited BEng + MSc or an MEng. Then, gain professional experience. I think it's in the order of 4 years of relevant work experience

2) Do a BEng and then do Further Learning, which is sometimes provided by the employer. You'll also have to have several years of experience in the workplace too.

Other routes can include just having a BEng, and this will lead to an IEng (Incorporated Engineer) status. Professionals can sometimes become chartered through their professional experience... I think RAeS do this, but it's a 9 year path - Which isn't disimilar from doing a degree and working.

But yeah, you need academic and professional skills to become accredited in most instances.
