Do send them at least an email outlining why you want to do classics. And do inform them of the AEA's. A personal statement would be best, but would be most time consuming

As it's an extremely competitive course at this university (someone must have dropped out etc) should I inform them of my UMS marks at AS as they are quite good? Or is that being to forthcoming?

Well, wouldn't that be in your reference anyway? They'll see all of your normal UCAS application.
