A2: Compare and Contrast Heaney's 'Burial at Thebes' and Shakespeare's 'King Lear'

I have to compare and contrast Heaney's 'Burial at Thebes' and Shakespeare's 'King Lear' by linking the two plays by themes. The theme I'm stuck on is;

THE DIVINE, NATURAL AND HUMAN ORDER

I have to....

•

compare the classical concept of an ordered world with that of Shakespeare's time e.g. 'Divine Right of Kings', 'Great Chain of Being';

•

compare Creon and Edmund as examples of impiety (Creon rejecting traditional acts of rememberance and reverence, Edmund refusing to accept his place in the social and natural order);

•

compare the structured, hierarchical nature of classical and Shakespearean societies.
