Worth noting that a lot of ports seem to have been unblocked recently, so connecting to Steam and some mmo servers without a VPN is possible. Other services (eg Mumble) still don't work though.

Steam itself works, but I still need a VPN to connect to DotA 2 matches.

Yes you can connect to Steam and download the games but it doesn't mean you can play them. If they require other ports (which they most likely do) then you're probably out of luck. DoTA2 doesn't work for example.

Sounds decent enough. Not being able to connect to steam was actually one of my biggest gripes with St A (as shallow as it sounds) All seems well enough though

To be honest any competent IT department at a University would have a similar policy in place regarding traffic anyway. And a VPN is hardly expensive :wink:
