Getting into a good uni?

Hey, i want to go to uni to do business management or something in that field or even possibly economics. Now i took 3 AS Levels and am predicted B grades for all. In September i don't know whether to carry on doing A-levels by starting at AS again because i'm not into the subjects i'm doing at the moment..., or do a BTEC Nation Diploma in Business (equivalent to 3 A-levels), what do you people think? Thanks

Im pretty positive A levels are higher regarded than BTEC's?

Are you AS Levels respected subjects? Theres no reason why you cant get A's in them just work hard and you can always resit. A B isn't bad anyway.
Its up to you what you do, whichever you will most enjoy doing. Make sure that the BTEC you do is equivilent to A levels because there are different levels.

Most uni's will accept BTEC's as A level equivilent so long as all the points needed are there but they might be scored differently to A levels, you will have to look into it.

BTEC's are higher than A levels.
I did a Diploma and the college demanded A levels, which I went to

i'd say stick on the Alevel path and apply to sensible unis. there are lots of good courses at places like soas, aston and possibly even manchester than you can get into with maybe ABB so keep pluggin away

If (s)he can do a BTEC instead of A levels, I would suggest the BTEC. An all round distinction will give her/him exactly the same chance as an AAA/AAB in A levels.

Well it all depends on the level of the BTEC, ie. First Diploma, National Diploma etc...
but if you are wanting to go to a good british university, then i really would suggest A Levels, as it would give you a broader knowledge base on which to start your degree than a Business BTEC

i'd advise a levels without a doubt. with ABB, there are lots of options.
stay with your a levels. don't specialise 2 early.

^ You're having a laugh?
A standard BTEC diploma (HND) is more equipped to deal with University study than A levels.
Getting an all round distinction will not tarnish a chance of getting into a good institution.
Sorry mate, but you have got it wrong. I managed to gain 2nd year access and 3rd year access into some institutions. Not one Uni did not offer me 2nd year. If you have an additional A level, you can pretty much apply anywhere with a distinction all round.

And with A levels, you have to do traditional subjects to get into the best institutions. Have you done both?
- because thats poor advice.

You need A Levels to do a BTEC HIGHER national diploma. It is equivalent to the first year of uni which is why you get 2nd/3rd year entry.

The OP is considering doing a BTEC National Diploma which is a level 3 qualification just like A Levels.

walshie,
you may disagree, but i'd still reccommend a levels to anyone infront of a diploma for a decent british uni.

I'd go with A Levels all the way. Isn't a BTEC what Vicky Pollard does?

Like Kristinx stated, A levels over an BTEC National Diploma for sure. But a BTEC Higher National Diploma over A levels any day.
At first I wasn't concentrating on this thread and missed the 'higher' bit.
