Is Hertfordshire uni good for child nursing?

I have a conditional offer at another uni that I'm not sure if to accept or not. I have an interview with herts to go to yet. I just want to know where the placements spread to and if the uni are good for this course?

Hi, I'm doing Adult Nursing at Herts, but have friends on the child branch who enjoy it. Your placements could be anywhere in Hertfordshire. Mine so far have been in Hatfield and Welwyn but I've had friends placed as far as Rickmansworth.

Hertfordshire is currently ranked 43 for nursing on The Guardian's list:

Hi Riafaye,

In terms of placements on the Child Nursing course experiences are wide and varied throughout the duration of your course.

Practice placements are organised within neighbouring NHS trust within Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and North London and include the private and voluntary sectors.

A number of NHS Trusts support student nurses in their practice by providing placements in local health service trusts, social services, local educational institutions, private health care facilities, and the voluntary sector. At the end of the second year you also have the opportunity to gain clinical experience elsewhere in the UK, abroad, or in specialised regional and national centres of excellence.

So as there are a lot of options available here and a number of these placements may lead on to employment upon completion of the course. The Child Nursing course here has over 93% of graduates either employed or in further education six months after completing the course, and 96% in professional or managerial jobs.

Hope this helps? Good luck with your interview!

thanks,

I have a unconditional for child nursing at hertfordshire. I'm planning on living at home which is near stansted airport however... Does anyone know where i am likely to be placed for my placement? I dont want to drive too much!

Also... I have a weekend job at the moment, do you think its best to leave the job or could i manage with the work load and the job?

Hi Sophie.

I'm studying child nursing at herts at the minute. Although they try to place you near where you live, they will consider that you have a car and have access to further placements. Living near stansted, I would presume you would be placed on the north London contract, meaning you could have placements further into London, but may still have ones towards Hertfordshire way (I had one in Stanmore, Middlesex) so you will have a bit of travelling to do. Can I ask why you don't want to move out?

With regards to your job, a weekend job will be okay during theory sessions, but during placement this will be difficult as you will be working full time hours, which will include weekend shifts. You could maybe try keeping your job and see how it goes, or ask them how flexible they are with regards to working reduced hours or a different day some weeks.

Hope this helps!
