I think I finally understand UMS points?

I never understood why UMS points were relevant, but I think I finally understand now!

For example, I'm doing GCSE French (WJEC). Let's imagine that for my speaking and writing, I achieved marks of 23/40 and 28/40 respectively. After looking at the Grade Boundaries, I learn that translates to 32 + 42 = 74 UMS points in total. To get a Grade C, I need to a total of 46 UMS points in my May Listening and Reading Exams.

Can somebody just confirm that that is the way it works? I thought UMS points were worthless until now

When you are regarding marks are you referring to UMS?

When I'm talking about Speaking and Writing, they're Raw marks to start with and then transferred to UMS.
