Mr. Jim
it's geordie for hello

P.S. - the modern greek's spelt "Γεια", lower case ghamma (&#947:wink: looks like upper case ipsilon (Y) but they're crafty them greeks :p:

I actually study Modern Greek - goddam keyboard! Can't believe I didn't even notice that! Thinking phonetically, sigh...

And I knew it was going to come up when I just said 'Frankfurt' - when people say Frankfurt in English, they mean Am Main, not the Oder one. Sorry!

FF is a fairly big city, not as big as London but though. Hence much to do (in the evenings), but no attractions or something like this. Not very beautiful in my opinion either, although the skyline is pretty amazing at night. Plus, you'll be there in the summer which should be great considering that there'll be one of the biggest Opern Air "WM-Fieber-Parties" in Germany with a "Party-Meile" at the Main. As for security issues FF has one of the highest crime rates (if I remember correctly). However, that shouldn't put you off since it's more about gang rivalries or organised crime rather than mugging or whatever. I've been there only for two hours though and didn't get a real feeling for the place.

Thanks! Well, I'll just hope I don't get caught up in a drive-by  It doesn't look as beautiful as Munich, but then it's always good to explore somewhere new, and I think I'll have a look online to see what else is happening while I'm there. Thanks for telling me about the party thing, I'll have a look about that. Did I once hear that Frankfurt is the centre of the German porn industry? At any rate, the course looks really good - the KCL German department is truly lovely

I have never been to Munich but even the name makes me feel uncomfortable. I generally don't like big cities and Munich is enormous...
If you want to see a beautiful city in Bayern you should go to Nuernberg. I grew up there (almost in Nuernberg) and its v. beautiful, but still its not a place where you are overflown by the masses of ppl (like in the big cities).

I didn't have this big city feeling when I was in Munich. This feeling was much stronger in Berlin, Cologne or even Hannover. Munich is just nice. I love it.

I've been to München. (I'm calling it that because I can do umlauts with a shortcut...:proud: ) I thought it was a really nice city - very clean! I'd definitely go there again, perhaps in the summertime though as I went in October. I'd also like to attend Oktoberfest.

what's oktoberfest...?

Well, Mr. Jim, if you must know... :p:

Oh how I miss my oral

I was thinking of going to visit Nuernberg while I'm in Munich for a day or weekend...it does look lovely. You really should go to Munich one time though. It doesn't feel like a massive city at all - the centre's quite small, and it's just so pretty! Where my father lived in a suburb called Trudering, if you walked for ten minutes or so you were in the countryside, and it was still only twenty minutes into the centre on the U-Bahn. Yay, I leave for Munich in less than three weeks

An excuse for a massive piss-up, complete with ultra-gaudiness.

All those requests to join the Language Society are so funny  Only few were written in English, all the other were in French or German... Which is not a problem, coz I understang French and German... I understand Polish and English too, but please no requests in: Chinese, Duch, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Russian, Vietnamese, Tibetan, Czech, Latin, Greek, and any other language which is not German, French, English or Polish
Cheers!

Well, good you didn't know, lol! Greek remings me of Plato and nice holidays, but beside that I can do nothing with it (oh, and there is also sometimes a Greek writing on the "good" vinegar)
Now it's 15. (I thought there would be less )

Btw. I'll need help, coz during the holidays I won't have access to the Internet for some time. So is there anybody who would want to be a co-leader of LS? I'll wait for a few days for your replies and than we'll see

Hehe. Well, I assume I'll be around here quite often for the next weeks (my friends are all going on holidays), so I could do it.

Why won't you have internet if I might ask? Holiday trips or anything exciting like that?
