What makes a 'good social life'?

I've seen so many people on here ask about the social life at their university choices as a factor in deciding where to go.

To me, social life just means having friends that you spend a lot of time with and I'm fairly sure you can find that at any university.

Do people mean nightlife? Or active student union? Or something else?

I presume nightlife.

Either way, my uni has plenty of societies that I want to join such as Snow sports, extreme sports, poker, mountaineering etc so I must be able to make some friends right?

When I started uni. I did think nightlife but I also thought about the ability to meet new people through societies and sports and also the opportunity for non-partying related social aspects
Large number of societies, good selection of nightclubs, Lots of freshers activities... that sort of thing
